Joshua Malina and Melissa Merwin’s time is up.
After almost 28 years of marriage, Merwin, 61, filed for divorce from the West Wing actor, 58, according to court records that TMZ was able to obtain on Monday, August 5.
According to the site, Merwin did not provide a date of separation in the filings, which claimed that the long-term couple’s split was due to irreconcilable disagreements. Merwin also asked Malina for spousal support.
Merwin is most renowned for her work as a costume designer on shows including Fallen, Ellen, and Point of No Return.
The two children of the former couple are adults, thus she did not ask for child support. They have a son, Avi, 22, and a daughter, Isabel, 26, together.
In 1992, the two got together through Timothy Busfield, Merwin’s former brother-in-law, and his sister Jennifer. The couple was married in December of 1996.
With the exception of a few infrequent posts on Malina’s social media pages, the divorced spouses largely kept their relationship out of the public eye despite being together for nearly three decades.
The actor posted on Instagram in July 2022, “Happy bday to my Maine gal, and the love of my life.”
Malina shared a cute photo of Merwin arranging flowers at her shop in a previous post from 2015, referring to her as his “beautiful wife.”
Malina’s most well-known parts are from Scandal, Sports Night, In Plain Sight, and The Big Bang Theory, in addition to West Wing. In addition, he has had guest appearances on a number of TV shows, such as Shameless, American Horror Story, This Is Us, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and others.
Malina, who had his Broadway debut in Aaron Sorkin’s A Few Good Men in 1998, is also a well-known theater performer.
He returned to Broadway in 2023 with Tom Stoppard’s Leopoldstadt.
“I was raised in the Westchester County suburb of New Rochelle, which is near Manhattan. At the time, he said to Bond Official, “It was a lovely place to live.” Being so close to the city had numerous benefits, one of which was the abundance of excellent Broadway and off-Broadway theaters. My urge to take the stage myself was fueled by sitting in the audience. I always jumped at the chance to take action.
“It seems like a homecoming,” he continued, “coming back to Broadway for the first time since I played in Aaron Sorkin’s A Few Good Men in 1989.”
