More recently, in an interview with Variety [via The Cinemaholic], Nadia elaborated on this, noting that in the ’70s and ’80s, Kuwait had a lot of money but not enough people working to handle it. She mentioned that her mother, who raised her on her own and worked in investment banking, was one of the women that inspired the show.
She said, “Working on The Exchange was me reflecting on my youth and adolescence and wanting to bring something to the screen that contained deep multidimensional characters.” A greater presence of strong female characters from this area. And I’m pleased with the results.
