When is the release date for ‘Waterloo Road’?
On Tuesday, September 10, Waterloo Road returns for its fourteenth season. The first episode of the new series, which premieres on BBC One at 8 p.m., will be available to stream on BBC iPlayer starting at 6 a.m. After that, every episode will air every week at the same time.
What new developments have occurred at ‘Waterloo Road’?
The first notable difference is that Waterloo Road now holds Academy status, following plans established at the conclusion of the previous season. And with it comes a brand-new, cutting-edge educational facility that is easy for teachers and students to access.
As comedian, presenter, actor, and singer Jason Manford arrives at Waterloo Road as Steve Savage, “a charismatic charmer who impresses everyone he meets and isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty to achieve the results he wants,” a new school also opens the door for a new headteacher.
How are we introduced to Steve initially?
Now that the previous head, Kim Campbell (Angela Griffin), is employed by the Academy Trust, deputy Joe Casey (James Baxter) has a chance to shine in the first episode when he steps in as interim head. Having attended Academy schools before, Steve is serving as Joe’s mentor. He says he will watch from a distance but will be available if Joe needs him.
And Steve is called in by the Trust to save the day when Joe gets an unexpected SOS call because he is having the worst day ever, complete with misbehaving students and irate employees. However, does he truly deserve the top position on Waterloo Road?
Which members and students are returning for this season?
In addition to James Baxter, who plays deputy Joe Casey, the returning parent and teacher cast features Jo Coffey as secretary Wendy Whitwell, Adam Thomas as caretaker Donte Charles, Neil Fitzmaurice as history teacher Neil Guthrie, and Rachel Leskovac as English teacher Coral Walker.
Katherine Pearce and Shauna Shim play drama teacher Amy Spratt and music teacher Valerie Chambers, respectively. With Hollie-Jay Bowes portraying her rival sister Debs Rafferty, Kym Marsh makes a comeback as the disturbed dinner lady Nicky Walters.
The students making their chaotic return to the halls of Waterloo Road include, among others: Preston Walters (Noah Valentine), Tonya Walters (Summer Violet Bird), Kelly-Jo Rafferty (Alicia Forde), Dean Weever (Francesco Piacentini-Smith), ‘Schuey’ Weever (Zak Sutcliffe), Libby Guthrie (Hattie Dynevor), Noel McManus (Liam Scholes), and Stacey ‘Stace’ Neville (Tillie Amartey).
What other changes can we expect at Waterloo Road this term?
Saira Choudhry (No Offence, Life) as math teacher Nisha Chandra, who is characterized as “a lazy genius with a lot of charisma who isn’t beyond bending the rules to suit herself,” and Olly Rhodes (The Last Kingdom), who plays Steve Savage’s son Billy and quickly learns that being the headteacher’s son is harder than any math test, are joining Jason Manford on the show this series.
Is season 15 of Waterloo Road planned?
Yes, the BBC will broadcast fresh series of Waterloo Road until at least 2026, increasing the total amount of “new era” episodes to 54. Fans are in for a treat since it was just announced that Waterloo Road has been recommissioned for two more seasons.
