Evil Dead Rise will come out in April 2023, and there are a lot of details about the next movie in the Evil Dead series that will interest horror fans. Evil Dead, which came out in 2013, was a reboot/sequel to the original Sam Raimi trilogy.
It was a surprising example of a remake that stayed true to the original and added to it. Evil Dead Rise will be the fifth movie in a series that also includes the TV show Ash vs. the Evil Dead, which is not connected to the other movies’ plots. Evil Dead Rise is a spin-off of the Raimi franchise, like Evil Dead (2013). The Deadites are back to scare a new group of people.
Raimi and Fede lvarez both said they wanted to make sequels to Army of Darkness and Evil Dead (2013), but those sequels to the stories of Mia Allen and Ash Williams never happened, in part because Bruce Campbell said he was done playing the character after the TV show.
Since lvarez’s Evil Dead came out 10 years ago, Lee Cronin is in charge of the new movie. Since 2013, there have been a number of projects that have been announced but then dropped. This has kept people waiting for the official release. Evil Dead Rise is about new people in a new place. Here’s what fans need to know about the upcoming movie.
Release Date of Evil Dead Rise
Evil Dead Rise was supposed to come out on HBO Max in 2022, but because the studio changed its plan and test screenings went well, the movie will now come out in theatres on April 21, 2023. Evil Dead Rise isn’t the only movie coming out this year that was supposed to debut on HBO Max.
House Party, Magic Mike’s Last Dance, and Blue Beetle were also supposed to debut on HBO Max first. This is also similar to what Paramount did with the horror hit Smile last year. The smile was supposed to be a Paramount+ original movie, but after good test screenings, the studio decided to put it in theatres instead, which turned out to be a good choice.
Is There Any Trailer For Evil Dead Rise?
Early in January 2023, Warner Brothers released the full red-band trailer for Evil Dead Rise after Campbell, the film’s executive producer, tweeted a sneak peek.
In just two and a half minutes, the film promises to be as bloody as any of its predecessors, as it contains all the gore and inventive use of commonplace objects that audiences have come to expect from the Evil Dead series. In one scene, Beth appears to be positioned to become the next Ash Williams or Mia Allen in the franchise.
Near the conclusion, Beth stands up covered in blood from head to toe, and starts a chainsaw. Notably, the family and children appear to play significant roles in Evil Dead Rise, with many of the scares and plot points revolving around the interactions between the young children and their aunt.
Ash vs. the Evil Dead explored the concept of young people experiencing the terrifying world of the Necronomicon alongside an adult, but this is the first time the young people are children, and the Ash Williams stand-in is certainly not as accustomed to the horror as her predecessor.
Official Synopsis of Evil Dead Rise
Evil Dead Rise’s official plot synopsis from Warner Bros. reads:
Moving the action out of the woods and into the city, “Evil Dead Rise” tells a twisted tale of two estranged sisters, played by Sutherland and Sullivan, whose reunion is cut short by the rise of flesh-possessing demons, thrusting them into a primal battle for survival as they face the most nightmarish version of family imaginable.
In his Twitter posts, Cronin says sarcastically that the movie is a “heartwarming and tender family drama.” He also posts a picture of a bloody kitchen counter with the caption “Damn kids never clean up the kitchen.” This hint, along with the fact that Cronin’s last movie was about bad kids, makes you wonder who in the family in LA may end up being possessed in Evil Dead Rise.

A reboot with a new storyline is a chance to bring the franchise up to date and add new, scary ideas. Lee Cronin is writing and directing the latest installment, so we can expect some of the dark creepiness we saw in his first movie, A Hole in the Ground. The movie was written and directed by Cronin, and it came out in 2019 with positive reviews.
The story is about a mother whose son comes home from the woods behind their house acting very strange. The woman starts to think that the boy isn’t really her child, but rather a “Changeling,” which, in European folklore, is an entity left in place of a child that fairies stole.
The movie is set in a spooky, grey rural area, with mesmerizing images and a strange creepiness in the story of a parent’s terror. There is no comedy in the movie, which makes it hard to tell if the newer, possibly scarier Evil Dead movie will have the same silly, funny style as the first three.
Who’s In Evil Dead Rise Cast?
Alyssa Sutherland plays Ellie, a mother of three, in Evil Dead Rise. Lily Sullivan plays her sister Beth, who she hasn’t seen in a long time. Bridget (Gabrielle Echols), Danny (Morgan Davies), Kassie (Nell Fisher), Jessica (Mia Challis), Scott (Tai Wano), Gabriel (Jayden Daniels), and Jake are the other characters who will show up (Billy Reynolds-McCarthy).
Evil Dead Rise’s main cast and characters are all new, just like Evil Dead 2013. This shows that this film in the series will have a different story than the ones that came before it. The Evil Dead movies are getting more and more like the Conjuring movies, where the films are only loosely connected to each other.

The movies that came after Army of the Dead stopped focusing on Ash Williams and instead looked at how the Necronomicon has affected other groups of people who didn’t know what was going on.
In the 2013 movie The Evil Dead, Ash doesn’t show up until the very last scene, which breaks the fourth wall. Campbell leans forward and says his famous catchphrase, “Groovy,” as the screen cuts to him in silhouette. Campbell won’t be in Evil Dead Rise, as he only worked on the movie as an executive producer.
Where To Watch Evil Dead Rise
The first four Evil Dead films are all available for purchase and rental on-demand, and some are also available on select streaming platforms. Both Netflix and Starz offer streaming access to the spin-off television series Ash vs. Evil Dead.
How Long Does Evil Dead Rise Last?
Evil Dead Rise will be 96 minutes long, making it the longest Evil Dead movie to date. For the sake of comparison The Evil Dead was 85 minutes long, Evil Dead II was 84 minutes, Army of Darkness was 81 minutes, and Evil Dead (2013) was 91 minutes.
