In 1996, a new killer in a mask scared people: Ghostface, the flailing, horror-savvy killer at the centre of the Scream franchise. It’s not a person like Jason, Michael Myers, or Freddy Krueger. Instead, it’s a title given to new generations of crazy movie fans.
The fifth Scream movie cut its way into theatres earlier this year. It made more than $140 million around the world and was praised by critics, which is no small feat considering how much people were looking forward to its scares and witty, up-to-date commentary.
Fans will soon be able to watch Scream 6. Here’s what we know about the sequel so far, including its release date, trailer, cast, plot, and other details.
When Does Scream VI Come Out?
Now, Scream 6 will come out on March 10, 2023. It was originally set for release at the end of the month, but Paramount Pictures brought the date forward by three weeks.
James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick wrote the script for Scream 6, which Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett will direct.

The movie was made in Montreal, and the last scenes were shot in August 2022.
When Empire asked the directors about the release date, they said, “This movie has to be willing to take a chance on everything in order to break all of those expectations.” And we’re so far down the rabbit hole of Scream movies, that it’s all up for grabs at this point.”
Is There Any Trailer for Scream VI?
Yes, a trailer for Scream 6 has arrived, giving fans a look at Hayden Panettiere and Courtney Cox, who are back for the sixth installment.
Fans also get their first look at the new Ghostface killer, who is carrying a shotgun for the first time. Look below:
What Is Scream VI About?
The first Scream came out in 1996, and it was one of the first horror movies where the main characters knew about common horror movie tropes and clichés. This made for some laughs and also gave the characters a chance to try to make smarter choices as they tried to figure out who the Ghostface killer was and stop them.
Without giving away major plot points from the fifth installment of the Scream series, which comes out in 2022, the characters again use what they know about horror movie tropes. Soon, they figure out that the new killer is making a “requel” or “legacy-quel” of the fictional Stab movies from the previous films, killing characters who are related to the characters from the first film. In the words of Mindy Meeks-Martin (Jasmin Savoy Brown), “legacy characters are supporting brand new characters.”
Scream VI will start right where Scream 2022 left off, with Sam and Tara Carpenter and Mindy and Chad Meeks-Martin moving to New York City to get away from Woodsboro and its dark past. They want to start over in a new city, but when a new Ghostface starts killing people around them, they are quickly pulled into yet another meta-slasher whodunit.

Who’s In the Scream VI Cast?
The Hollywood Reporter announced last year that Hayden Panettiere’s character Kirby from Scream 4 would be back in Scream 6. This has been a long-awaited return.
It looks like a lot of the same actors will be in Scream 6, or Scream VI. However, Neve Campbell’s character, Sydney Prescott, will not be in a Scream movie for the first time, which is shocking.
Courtney Cox is back as Dewey’s ex-girlfriend Gale Weathers. She has been in the first five Scream movies as a morning show host, legacy survivor, and author. But she won’t be the only one coming back. It’s been confirmed that Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, and Jenna Ortega will also be in Scream 2022 since they all survived their encounter with Ghostface in the reboot.
Jasmin Savoy Brown, who plays Mindy Meeks-Martin, Randy’s niece and Chad’s twin, will also be back. Mason Gooding, who plays Chad Meeks-Martin, Randy’s nephew and Mindy’s twin, will also be back.
Samara Weaving will be in the movie, but we don’t know who she will play yet. She was in “The Babysitter.”
Synopsis of Scream VI
The official synopsis for Scream VI or Scream 6 says, “The four survivors of the Ghostface killings start a new chapter as they leave Woodsboro behind.” The young people who managed to stay alive hope to start a new chapter in the city that never sleeps. But Ghostface is up to something else. Mindy, Chad, and Tara will go to the made-up Blackmore University in the city in Scream 6. Tara’s sister Sam will join them to help protect Tara.

In a new cast interview, Melissa Barrera, who plays Sam, said, “These kids are running away, and Ghostface is still finding them in the most beautiful city but also the most terrifying because it’s so crowded and people can be mean.”
Who is the Director of Scream VI?
Wes Craven directed the first four Scream movies, but he didn’t direct the fifth one. Instead, Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillet were in charge. The two will be back for Scream 6.
Also, James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick, who wrote Scream (2022), are back to help write the new movie.
Where To Watch Scream VI
All five Scream films can be viewed online. Here’s where to find them all:
