The Great Season 3: Plot
The Great season 3 narrative is unknown, but we can build a very clear picture thanks to crew statements and the cliffhanger ending of season 2.
Season 2 ended with murder, sorrow, and complex relationships. Catherine’s diplomatic solutions lead to her killing the Ottoman Sultan and being pressured to kill her dethroned husband, Peter.
Peter was similarly entangled in the throne war. The imprisoned monarch had to choose between his survival and his heart, and the cunning ex-royal of Sweden told him to kill Catherine to live quietly. The husband and wife appear to be in a civil war. This time, they both have feelings for one other; it’s spicy.
Catherine stabbed Peter in the back while crying in the final episode of season 2. She killed a lookalike, not her husband (oops). Peter came out to comfort her, but both realized they wanted to kill each other despite loving each other.
Peter will continue to show that he has changed and loves his wife and son Paul in Season 3. Instead of the power-crazed monster who almost drowned Catharine in season 1.
Tony McNamara, the show’s creator, said, “Everyone ends [season 2] in a completely different place.” The third season focuses on the court, Catherine’s next level of leadership, and Peter’s future.
Along with Peter and Catherine’s dramas, we may glimpse Marial’s fate. Marial exposed Peter for sleeping with and killing Catherine’s mother, Joanna. Catherine loves Peter; how will they make up? Unknown.
Debaucherous Archbishop Archie is still attempting to find his faith, and conflict is set to intensify due to Catherine’s actions with the Sultan. The Great season 3 has plenty of content, spicy drama, and tension to fill all 10 episodes.
Whatever the new season’s premise, Catherine’s story won’t end. Marian Macgowan told Decider in 2020 there will be at least three more seasons. She continued, “We pitched six seasons.” “We believe there’s enough content until [Catherine] is elderly.”
