Too Short, also known as Too $hort, is a rapper, producer, and actor from the United States who has a net worth of $5 million. His name is stylized as Too Short. In the late 1980s, he rose to prominence among the hip-hop community on the West Coast.

Too Short amassed his wealth thanks to the success of his singles and albums, the establishment of his own record label, and his starring roles in both movies and television shows. Too Short became known all over the world thanks to the success of his songs “The Ghetto” and “Blow the Whistle.”

Too Short Early Life

On April 28th, 1966, in the city of Los Angeles, in the state of California, he was given the name Todd Anthony Shaw. After some time, he and his family relocated to Oakland in the state of California.

Too Short’s father and mother both had careers in accounting. While he was growing up, he portrayed them as being extremely supportive and encouraging of his music career. While he was a student at Fremont High School, he participated in the school band as a drummer.

Around the middle of the 1980s, Shaw and Freddy B, a high school classmate of Shaw’s, started producing “special request” songs on cassette cassettes and distributing them to people in the Bay Area.

The two of them recorded their songs in the home recording studio that his father had found for him. In 1985, when he was only 14 years old, he made his debut with the album Don’t Stop Rappin’, which was released on the local label 75 Girls. This was the beginning of his career.

Many people believe that Too Short was the hip-hop musician that brought the West Coast rap scene back from the brink of extinction. A LinnDrum drum machine was included on each of the four 12″ singles that Too Short issued around this time. Too Short was the first hip-hop artist to utilize the word “bitch” on his recordings.

This phrase became one of Too Short’s trademarks and was the subject of many of his rap songs, including “Ain’t Nothin’ But a Word to Me.” Later on in the same year, Too Short and Freddy B established a record label that they named Dangerous Music. With this business, they were able to regionally distribute Short’s music. The record company eventually changed its name to Short Records and then to Up All Night Records.

His second album Life Is…Too Short was released three years later, and this time he used replicated known funk riffs rather than samples in his tracks. Big stars like Tupac Shakur, The Notorious B.I.G., and Scarface collaborated with Short on many of his later albums and projects. His tenth album, Can’t Stay Away (1999), featured guest appearances from 8Ball & MJG, Jay-Z, Jermaine Dupri, Sean Combs, E-40, Daz Dillinger, Lil’ Jon, Soopafly, Scarface, and B-Legit.

While he recorded numerous albums in the ’00s, including “You Nasty,” “Chase the Cat,” “What’s My Favorite Word?” and “Married to the Game,” Too $hort’s rebirth began with 2006’s “Blow the Whistle,” which peaked at #14 on the Billboard Hot 200, far better than any of his prior offerings.

At the VH1 Hip-Hop Honors in 2008, he was joined by Cypress Hill, De La Soul, and Slick Rick, as well as Naughty by Nature. No Tresspassing, his third studio album, was released in 2012. “Jewels n’ Drugs” was a collaboration between Too Short and Lady Gaga in 2013. Too Short’s 20th album, “The Pimp Tape,” was released in November 2018 six years after his previous one.

“The Vault,” his 21st album, was released in December of this year. “Ain’t Gonna Do It / Terms & Conditions” was released on December 18, 2020, by Too Short and E-20.

Too Short Other Ventures

When it comes to film, this West Coast hip-hop pioneer has worked on the soundtracks or appeared in cameo roles. During the filming of “Menace II Society,” he took on the role of Lew-Loc. “Get In Where You Fit In” was Too Short’s first foray into the adult film industry. “American Pimp” and “America’s Sexiest Girls” also included him as an interviewee and a celebrity. “The Game” and Jay-“Big Z’s Pimpin” music video also featured him as a cameo appearance, as well.

On VH1’s “Planet Rock,” Too Short participated in a rock documentary, and he also appeared in the movie “Stop Pepper Palmer.” “Too Short Uncensored” and “Too Short Presents…Titty City” are two of Too Short’s direct-to-DVD films. An episode of E”Kendra,” !’s featuring Kendra Wilkinson, aired in 2009.
