Finally, the Release Date for Tron: Ares Announced for October 2025!

The release date for Disney’s Tron: Ares, the Jared Leto-led follow-up to the science fiction films Tron and Tron: Legacy, has been announced.

When the newest Tron movie will be released in theaters was disclosed in a press statement that Disney sent out earlier today. Almost 15 years after Tron: Legacy was released on December 17, 2010, the movie will have its debut on Friday, October 10, 2025.

Actor Jodie Turner-Smith from After Yang, Greta Lee from Past Lives, Golden Globe winner Gillian Anderson, Emmy winner Evan Peters, Cameron Monaghan from Shameless, and Yellowjackets star Sarah Desjardins are all joining Jared Leto. According to reports, Leto will portray the title role, which is an embodiment of a sentient software that enters the human realm.

Who is Directing Tron: Ares?

Joachim Rønning (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil) is directing Tron: Ares, which is based on a script by Jack Thorne and Jesse Wigutow. Leto, Jeffrey Springer, and Emma Ludbrook are the film’s producers. Additionally, Russell Allen will function as an executive producer.

In the 1982 original, Jeff Bridges played Kevin Flynn, a computer programmer who is transferred into a fanciful virtual world and recruited to overthrow a state led by an evil artificial intelligence. Tron: Legacy, directed by Joseph Kosinski and starring Garett Hedlund, Olivia Wilde, James Frain, Beau Garrett, and Michael Sheen, came out more than thirty years after the original movie.

The inception of the Tron franchise can be traced back to 1982, when the inaugural installment featuring Jeff Bridges was released.

The film’s innovative and pioneering use of computer-generated imagery established a precedent for subsequent productions employing the same format. Nearly three decades later, Tron: Legacy was released, featuring the re-entry of Bridges and the participation of Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde.

By reinventing the visual aesthetic of the franchise in accordance with the 3D fad of the 2010s, the film developed a cult following throughout the years. The franchise remained dormant once more, despite grossing $400 million worldwide; a third installment was mired in development purgatory for years.

Now that the eagerly anticipated installment is at last imminent, supporters are filled with anticipation. The extent to which it will be as revolutionary as the previous two is currently unclear.
