Toy Story 5 will bring Woody and Buzz back to their home land, according to Disney. Disney CEO Bob Iger announced at the 2023 year-end earnings call that Pixar will be producing a new Toy Story sequel. It will be the sixth full-length Toy Story film, succeeding Toy Story 4 in 2019 and Lightyear in 2022.
After announcing the animation studio’s entrance in 1995, the Pixar series has made over $3.3 billion in revenue to date. Toy Story 5 is hoping to emulate its predecessors and become another box office success for Disney.
Potential Release Date for Toy Story 5
As of right now, Pixar has not disclosed an official release date for Toy Story 5, which is still “in development.” Disney has officially announced that the movie will be released in 2026.

With three upcoming untitled Pixar films scheduled for June 2025, March 2026, and June 2026, is June 2026 perhaps the release date for Toy Story 5? We anticipate that Toy Story 5 will release in the summer, just like Toy Story 3 and 4.
Toy Story 5 Cast
Pete Docter, the head of Pixar, confirmed in June 2023 that Toy Story 5 would once more center on the adventures of Woody and Buzz. Toy Story would not exist without the formidable vocal performances of Tim Allen and Tom Hanks in their roles as Buzz Lightyear and Woody, respectively; will they return for Toy Story 5?
The Home Improvement star, who did not appear in the Lightyear spinoff, confirmed his return as Buzz alongside Woody in a tweet following the announcement of Toy Story 5: “See you soon, Woody… off we go to number five!” Beyond infinity and into eternity!”
Ahead of considering whether five might be Buzz and Woody’s limit, Allen verified on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon that Disney had contacted both himself and Hanks.
“The chief of Disney, Bob Iger, declared it to be on and assured that it would occur. He added, “They have reached out to Tom and I regarding reprising our roles.” He further stated, “You may wonder if four was an excessive number.” Will five be an excessive number?”
Notwithstanding this, Allen’s apparent desire to rejoin the franchise dates back several years. Allen, when discussing the possibility of Toy Story 5 with ET in 2019, did not rule out a fifth film in which he reprised the role of Buzz Lightyear.

“Once you’ve gotten to four, you’re passed that trilogy [point], so I don’t see any reason why they wouldn’t do it, certainly,” Allen stated. “If you ask me, I’d say do five.”
In 2019, Hanks appeared less certain, stating on Ellen DeGeneres, “Everyone is bidding goodbye, including Woody, Buzz, Bonnie’s room, Andy, and others,” before further speculating: “Is it over? I honestly do not know. “It will endure indefinitely.”
This hopefully signals the return of Joan Cusack as Jessie, Wallace Shawn as Rex, John Ratzenberger as Hamm, and Blake Clark as Slinky Dog, in addition to Tony Hale as Forky. Mr. Potato Head, portrayed by Don Rickles, will not be returning due to his passing in 2017.
The Plot of Toy Story 5
Although the premise of Toy Story 5 is yet unknown to us, it is certain that Woody and Buzz will need to get back together for yet another adventure. Pixar CEO Pete Docter stated to The Wrap regarding the upcoming fifth movie: “I think it’ll be surprising.” There are some truly amazing things in it that you haven’t seen before.
Toy Story 4’s poignant conclusion included Woody and Bo Peep abandoning Bonnie’s toys and meeting Giggle McDimples, Duke Caboom, Bunny, and Ducky at the fairground as “lost toys.”
Since Bonnie no longer required Woody, they made the decision to stay behind with the traveling carnival. With Hanks stating he had to turn away from the team in the recording booth in case it made him weep, it was an emotional sequence for the cast to film since it appeared to be the end of the series.
The remainder of Bonnie’s toys, which included Trixie, Dolly, Jessie, Forky, Bullseye, Slinky, Rex, the Potato Heads, and Buttercup, were taken back to her family’s RV and used as the small child’s playthings for the remainder of her life.
Going forward, even if the official narrative details of Toy Story 5 are still buried deep in the toy box, its stars haven’t stopped coming up with their own suggestions. Not only has Allen revealed that Disney has one of the original Toy Story franchise writers writing the screenplay, but he also offered his ideas for a possible new Woody and Buzz adventure that would bring all of the toys back to their cherished owner Andy.

“I don’t know if this is where the story is going, but what if the whole story was through Andy as an adult?” Allen asked The Movie Dweeb during the season two trailer. When [his] kids happen to be online, one of them asks, “Have you ever seen this toy?” Then Andy notices that Buzz is selling these antique toys and that one of his hands is missing. Andy then proceeds to collect every toy.
“He needs to locate each of them, reassemble them, transport them back to his home, and begin the process anew with his son. “Oh my goodness, this is all seen through Andy’s eyes. The toys brought him into the world, and now he’s giving back,” I said. Will Toy Story 5 follow this storyline? Time will tell.
