The 1987 film The Lost Boys starred Corey Feldman, Corey Haim, Keifer Sutherland, and Jason Patric and became a cult favorite. The vampire picture was a box office hit and gained critical acclaim, a rarity at the time.
The Lost Boys resembles a dark Peter Pan despite their differences. Vampires, like Peter’s friends, never grow old and suffer teenage angst forever.
Sam asks two local vampire hunters to save Michael after realizing he is half-vampire. The Frog brothers Edgar (Corey Feldman) and Alan (Jamison Newlander) say Michael can only be released by murdering the head vampire. The kids kill part of the vampire gang, including its commander, but David, Michael, and Star realize they were wrong—the top vampire is still alive.
Grandpa arrives just in time to save the day by driving his truck straight through the house and impaling him on a wooden fence post. After the teenagers uncover his identity, they understand that they are powerless to stop him in a home that he was welcomed into. However, Grandpa is able to save the day. Following the revelation that Michael and Star are one of the other half-vampires, they are able to return to their normal adolescent lives.
The Lost Boys ends with most of the vampire menace gone, but a sequel, The Lost Girls, was never made. After 20 years, two Frog Brothers-focused sequels were released, but none was as successful as the original.
