Todd Phillips Appears to Indicate That Joker 3 Won’t Be Happening

Joker: Folie à Deux is scheduled to release in October, but it’s unlikely that director Todd Phillips would make another comic book movie since he appears to be finished with them for the time being. Two years after the events of 2019’s Joker, Joaquin Phoenix makes a reappearance as Arthur Fleck in Todd Phillips’ most recent film.

Together with Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn, the two aim to persuade Joker’s supporters to release him from Arkham State Hospital.

Phillips discussed everything Joker: Folie à Deux, including whether or not fans should anticipate a third installment in the series, in a recent article provided by Variety. Sadly, Phillips noted that although it was enjoyable for a while, he doesn’t seem to be continuing the brand. See what he had to say below.

Although it was enjoyable to explore this kind of sandbox for two films, I believe we have covered all the ground we wanted to in this realm.

Naturally, even if Phillips might be done with the series, that doesn’t imply the franchise will end abruptly. If Warner Bros. Pictures finds that Joker: Folie à Deux does well at the box office, they might easily hire a new filmmaker to tackle another picture, giving Arthur Fleck a new perspective.

But given how closely Phillips and Phoenix collaborated to bring Joker’s tale to life, it seems improbable that the actor would take on the role again without the director. Producers would then have to look elsewhere for a performer who could contribute as much to the part as Phoenix did, and to be honest, I doubt that audiences would be very open to that idea.

At First, Joker 2 Was Intended to Be a Broadway Production

Everyone is aware that Joker: Folie à Deux has a strong musical component thanks to the trailer’s release. How could it not, with Gaga in tow? But there was another notion for the project before the theatrical version that will open in theaters on October 4th.

It seems out that COVID caused Phillips and Phoenix to abandon their plans for a Broadway follow-up.

“After giving it some serious thought, we discovered that assembling something like that requires four years. And Joaquin, is he really going to sacrifice half of his life to perform on stage every night? Then we considered doing it as a sort of smaller event at the Carlyle. However, COVID struck.”

Nevertheless, the decision to stage Joker as a musical stood. “Why do something if it doesn’t scare the sh*t out of you?” Phillips enquired. Joker: The concept of a musical isn’t what many of us had in mind for a sequel, but the filmmaker was prepared to take the chance, which is why Folie à Deux seems to be frightening a lot of people right now. “I have a risk addiction.

It keeps you up at night, really. Your hair falls out as a result. However, perseverance comes from perspiring.”

When Joker: Folie à Deux opens in theaters this October, will all that singing and dancing be worthwhile? That is still to be determined, but one thing is certain: the story will come to an epic conclusion that will put an end to Phillips’s involvement in it for the time being.
