The legal dispute between Angelina Jolie and her former partner Brad Pitt is intensifying. Jolie said that Pitt attempted to coerce her into signing a $8.5 million non-disclosure agreement (NDA) in order to conceal “years of abuse.”
Jolie’s lawyers supported Pitt, 60, disclosing “private, third-party communications” he had regarding their family’s 2016 plane trip, which led to Jolie, 49, filing for divorce, in newly filed court documents obtained by Us Weekly on July 25.
In their earlier response to the motion, Pitt’s legal team described the second filing that requested access to his private correspondence as “wide-ranging and intrusive.”
When Jolie sold her stake in the former couple’s winery, Château Miraval, in 2021, her legal team claimed that the actress “was not acting with malice and the intent to hurt Pitt in response to any custody ruling.”
These claims were made in documents filed on July 25. (Pitt filed a lawsuit against Jolie in 2022, alleging that she had sold her shares of the French company without authorization. In addition, the former couple has been involved in a protracted custody dispute about their children, Maddox, 22, Pax, 20, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 18, and the twins, Knox and Vivienne, 16.)
As per the documents, Pitt declined to purchase her shares until he obtained his recently extended non-disclosure agreement, which is backed by a $8.5 million holdback that is intended to compel her to remain silent about his mistreatment and concealment.
Jolie highlighted in her motion that “abuse survivors frequently face skepticism and are seldom believed based solely on their statements.” She alleged that Pitt aimed to “conceal” his “own damaging emails that reveal his previous abuse of Jolie and their children” when the Offer of Proof was reviewed for their past testimony.
According to Jolie’s motion, “In retaliation, he insisted that Jolie sign the extended NDA to stop her from ever discussing it.”
There Once Was a Time… According to court filings, the Hollywood star insisted that he did not utilize the NDA to try to hide any alleged abuse.
A judge ordered Jolie to turn over all of the NDAs she signed with outside parties throughout the eight-year period from 2014 to 2022, according to a May file that Us was able to access.
According to a member of Pitt’s legal team Us, “the issue of NDAs has become a key battleground in the dispute over the award-winning Château Miraval business.”
“Jolie asserts that she renounced her ownership in the company to Pitt because he required her to sign a ‘unconscionable’ privacy agreement as a condition of the transaction; Pitt maintains that this defense is weakened by her own frequent usage of NDAs.”
“Jolie’s defense is a cover story she cooked up to ‘rationalize’ the decision to sell her stake” in Miraval, the speaker continued.
In 2008, the stars of Mr. and Mrs. Smith initially acquired a majority stake in Miraval. In August 2014, they tied the knot at the chateau, having started selling their own rosé in March 2013. Pitt claimed that Jolie and Brad promised not to sell their Miraval interests without the other’s consent when they filed for divorce in 2016.It’s
But in 2021, Jolie gave up ownership of the company to Russian investor Yuri Shefler’s Tenute del Mondo, the wine subsidiary of the Stoli group. Pitt said in his filing that the business decision was taken by his ex-wife without his knowledge or approval.
In order to “put their family on a clear path toward healing and end the fighting,” Jolie’s counsel filed a motion in July requesting that Pitt withdraw his case about the French winery.
