Scream Factory Will Release The Haunting 4K Remake of “The Amityville Horror”

Haunted home films are an integral part of the horror genre. The Amityville Horror from 1979 is the most cherished masterpiece of its sort, despite the fact that the subgenre has since become cliched. The movie went on to influence the contemporary family ghost narrative, drawing inspiration from the novel of the same name and a real-life murder case. It also gave rise to a huge franchise, which saw a 2005 reboot. Now, that remake, which stars Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, will be available on 4K via Scream Factory in the autumn.

Together with one brand-new special feature, the 4K/Blu-ray Collector’s Edition combo pack has a fresh 4K scan taken from the movie’s original negative. This is the documentary “Houses Don’t Kill People: Revisiting The Amityville Horror,” which includes interviews with composer Steve Jablonsky and director Andrew Douglas. A Scare Reel, Home Movies, an audio commentary with Reynolds and producers Andrew Form and Brad Fuller, and “The Source Of Evil” – Making The Amityville Horror are among the previously published additional features that will be included on the Blu-ray disc.

You will also receive a unique poster featuring the same eerie theatrical artwork as the 4K cover if you pre-order through Scream Factory’s website. This shows a silhouetted Reynolds holding a shotgun while he looks down at the famous house.

What’s ‘Amityville Horror’ About?

The Amityville Horror Remake

Similar to the original, the remake centers on a young family who moves into a new home in Amityville, New York, following the horrific murder of a family there a year earlier. They don’t know about the terrible past of the home or that there is still supernatural evil within its corridors. The cycle of violence could recommence when those evil energies begin to cling to Reynolds’s portrayal of the father. The Hollywood remake frenzy that swept the 2000s coincided with the premiere of this movie. That contentious treatment was being applied to all of the big horror franchises, including Friday the 13th, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Halloween.

Fans would greet Amityville with the same frigid reception upon its premiere, while critics panned the movie. On Rotten Tomatoes, it presently has an appalling 24% rating. We might have been too hard on the movie, too, considering the series’ contemporary setting, as the franchise has devolved into a farce. Amityville has been to space, captured on Thanksgiving, and taken over by the “Karens” of the globe since the reboot. Sadly, the series has descended into direct-to-DVD mediocrity and shows little indications of recovery in the near future. This offers the horror community even more justification to check out the remake and give it another go.

In terms of Reynold’s personal career, it’s a welcome, somber performance from the actor who has recently embarked on comedic roles in films like as IF, Free Guy, and the Deadpool films. One of Chloë Grace Moretz’s first roles is also in the movie. The actress gained notoriety in the horror genre for her roles in the latest Addams Family animated flicks, as well as the remakes of Carrie and Suspiria.
