“It was a sad day, as we said goodbye to my brother Morgan,” wrote his brother and regular partner Craig Spurlock in a statement. “Morgan contributed so much with his paintings, ideas, and compassion. The world has lost a great creative talent and a unique individual. I’m really proud to have worked with him.”

Super Size Me was an immediate sensation upon its release, in part due to its apparent condemnation of McDonald’s and the unhealthy nature of their cuisine. However, Morgan’s admission that he was also inebriated during the production of the documentary put some of the results into question.

Morgan’s reputation was significantly damaged in 2017 when he acknowledged that he was a contributing factor to the issue that the #MeToo movement sought to resolve. In an extensive Twitter thread, Morgan disclosed that he had been unfaithful to all of his partners and had sexually harassed a former assistant. Additionally, he disclosed that he had been accused of rape during his college years. Morgan’s confession in essence terminated his career as a documentary filmmaker.
