Citadel Season 2 Renewed or Canceled Status on Prime Video!

Citadel’s first season hasn’t yet debuted on Prime Video, and we already know what’s going to happen with the show. Will there be a season two?

It’s unusual for a streaming service to renew a show before its season is through. It’s doubtful that there’s a single network that preemptively renews a show. Once a show has run for a few seasons, networks will feel comfortable enough to try something new.

However, there are the occasional shows that become hits simply because of the hype around them. This is usually the result of either widespread interest in the show’s inspirational material or confidence in the show’s creators and producers.

The fact that the Russo brothers are allegedly the masterminds behind Citadel. In addition, the show’s stellar cast is a big reason why you should check it out.

Citadel Season 2 Renewed or Canceled Status

The Hollywood Reporter claims that Prime Video has renewed Citadel for a second season. The series premieres on the streaming service on April 28th, so this is in anticipation. Preemptively renewing the high-octane science fiction series for a second season was a significant financial commitment for the streaming service, so Amazon’s trust in the show is understandable.

The Russo Brothers, who previously worked on films like “Avengers: Infinity War,” created the series. Citadel has been in development since at least 2018 when it was described as a “multi-layered international event series” by The Hollywood Reporter. A localized version of the show will air in Spanish, Mexican, Italian, and Indian languages.

Citadel Season 2 Renewed or Canceled

The production of this very ambitious endeavor was reportedly stressful and expensive, as previously reported by Collider. The planned budget for the first season was a stunning $160 million, but reshoots increased that by $75 million. However, despite the show’s pre-release drama, Amazon has already renewed the show for a second season.

Citadel Season 2 Cast Confirmation

The Citadel agents Mason Kane and Nadia Sinh, played by Priyanka Chopra and Richard Madden of “Game of Thrones,” respectively. Citadel is an autonomous secret agency that has since been disbanded, and the series follows the lives of former agents from that organization.

As we previously reported, the series would follow the agents as they adjust to their new lives and work to resurrect the group from the dead. A trailer released recently gave viewers their first look at this ambitious notion.

The series has a lot riding on its success, as it is the second most expensive show ever filmed, trailing only Prime Video’s The Rings of Power in terms of budget.

Previously on Collider, we discussed how the ambitious scale of Amazon Studios’ upcoming epic fantasy series has paid off with the series becoming the studio’s most-watched original production to date. Still, unlike other epic shows like House of the Dragon, Prime Video has not succeeded to capture global pop culture.

Citadel Season 2 Releasing Information

It’s being released weekly, just like a lot of other shows. The first two episodes will be released simultaneously, and subsequent episodes will be released weekly. The short runtime of only six episodes helps keep the high-budget show’s production expenditures in check.

Big-budget shows would benefit greatly from weekly releases, as this would keep viewers interested for weeks rather than days.

What Can Happen Next in Citadel?

We can now safely assume that a second season of Citadel will indeed air. Let’s talk about the upcoming sixth episode of this show. Episode 6 of Citadel will premiere on Friday, March 26, 2023. After learning in the last episode that Asha, Nadia Sinh’s daughter, is actually Mason’s (Richard Madden) daughter, Manticore Agents have taken her.

In the upcoming episode, we will see Nadia and Mason take their action scenes to the next level as they battle Manticore to protect their kid.
