Aquaman 2 Release Date: When is Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom coming out?

The DC sequel Aquaman 2, also known as Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, will finally be released this year. The sequel and a spin-off that was later scrapped were both announced shortly after the first film’s unprecedented success. However, Aquaman will be back, and he’ll be joined by another DC superhero.

James Wan returns as director, and co-writer David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick also returns for the sequel. The producers are James Wan and Peter Safran, the latter of whom has recently been named co-head of DC Studios.

Here’s everything you need to know about Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom to tide you over until the movie finally arrives, which may be a while yet.

Aquaman 2 Release Date: When Will Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom Be Released in Theaters?

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will be released in theaters in the United States on December 20, 2023, and in the United Kingdom on December 26, 2023.

The planned release date was December 16, 2022, however, it was pushed back to March 17, 2023, so that the visual effects could be completed. Warner Bros. Discovery rescheduled it to its present date to disperse 2023 advertising expenses.

Aquaman 2 Release Date

The sequel was shot between June 2021 and January 2022, with further filming occurring in July 2022. If that’s the case, then maybe we can still make it by December 2023.

When Can We Expect a Trailer?

The first trailer premiered in April at a private showing for CinemaCon 2023 attendees; the rest of the world should see it soon, we hope.

The teaser reportedly depicts Jason Momoa‘s Aquaman, who is now a father, Randall Park’s Dr. Stephen Shin on an arctic expedition, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s Black Manta, who promises to use the Black Trident to “destroy Aquaman and everything he holds dear.”

Will Aquaman Be Part of James Gunn’s DC Universe?

Aquaman was noticeably absent from the lineup of projects announced by James Gunn and Peter Safran, co-heads of DC Studios, for Part 1 of their reimagined DCU, titled Gods and Monsters. Because of this, many people assumed that Arthur Curry would be canceled along with the rest of the DCEU after the impending sequel.

On the other hand, in a recent interview with Total Film, Momoa gave fans reason to be optimistic by saying that they won’t have to wait too long to see the underwater god of Atlantis again.

Aquaman 2 Release Date

“I absolutely think Aquaman will be involved in the DCU,” Momoa said. It’s on, man; nobody beats Aquaman in size. Also, I’m crossing my fingers that the new one generates a lot of interest. I enjoy doing it because…”

What Happened in the Aquaman 2?

Aquaman takes place after the events of Justice League (2017) and follows Arthur as he fights to reclaim his rightful place as King of Atlantis from his brother-turned-enemy, Orm.

Orm, who wanted to be recognized as the undisputed master of the ocean, enlisted Black Manta’s aid in starting a conflict with the surface dwellers.

The only possibility is if Arthur, who has always shied away from accepting responsibilities, were to displace his half-brother as King. In order to accomplish this, it was necessary to recover the legendary Trident of Atlan, an artifact that can only be used by the ocean’s rightful ruler. As a result, Arthur was able to turn Orm’s armies against him and the overworld was saved.
