Vikings Season 7 Cancelled: Why the Epic Historical Drama Ended at Season 6?

We may observe the rise and fall of empires, the appetite for violence, and many other aspects of history in popular historical dramas. Do you find it fascinating to watch historical plays that have fantastic squabbles?

The Vikings TV series, which ran for six seasons before being canceled after its seventh, is one of my favorites. It’s disappointing news for the many viewers and fans who were hoping for a big-screen adaptation of Season 7 of Vikings.

The drama series Vikings is based on the real-life exploits of the legendary and influential historical figure Ragnar Lothbrok. Now that the sixth season has concluded, viewers are eager for the show’s creators to continue the tale in a potential seventh season.

The Viking’s spin-off will premiere on Netflix in 2022, despite initial plans to air the series by year’s end in 2021. I’ve included some information on The Vikings Show in this piece for the benefit of any readers who may be unfamiliar with it.

What are Vikings All About?

Michael Hirst produced and wrote the historical drama series Vikings for the Canadian television network History. The Irish-shot film debuted in its Canadian homeland on March 3, 2013.

Vikings Season 7 Cancelled

After airing on History in Canada from January 1 to March 3, 2021, the latter half of the sixth season was made available on Amazon Prime Video in Ireland on December 30, 2020. On February 25, 2022, the second season of Vikings: Valhalla debuted on Netflix.

Why Vikings Season 7 Didn’t Happen

The show didn’t be canceled because of low ratings or lack of interest, despite the fact that many viewers found it less interesting following Ragnar’s death. Instead, Vikings showrunner Michael Hirst has stated that the choice to wrap up the plot at the end of Season 6 was a creative one. In a 2019 interview with Variety, Hirst elaborated:

By the end of season 6 of Vikings, there was just one original cast member left, and his storyline had naturally concluded. While there are likely avenues for the program to follow Ragnar’s surviving sons, Vikings seemed like it was running out of things to tell as early as season 6.

Ivar and Hvitserk’s last attack on Wessex and Ubbe’s Western exploits brought the series full circle and satiated Ragnar’s wanderlust. Season 6 of Vikings concluded in December 2020. Although Ragnar Lothbrok and his sons’ chapter had closed, the Vikings’ saga was far from over.

Set a century after the events of the main series, Vikings: Valhalla follows new characters—including King Canute (Bradley Freegard), Emma of Normandy (Laura Berlin), and Leif Erikson (Sam Corlett)—in the world of Norse history.

Valhalla: The Vikings Spinoff

The series is in development from Hirst and MGM Television and was picked up by Netflix after being announced at the end of 2019. It has also been rumored that the sequel or spinoff will focus on historical figures from the century after the Viking era.

Vikings Season 7 Cancelled

Although filming on the Viking’s spinoff began in 2020, it was halted due to a global pandemic, as well as other complications and delays in the production of the series, which pushed back its debut on Netflix from 2021 to 2022.

Vikings Ratings

Even if the Vikings season has an incredible 8.5 rating on IMDB, the program has been terminated and will not return for a seventh season.
