Plot of Shardlake
Shardlake is an adaptation of “Dissolution,” the initial novel in Sansom’s series, which takes place amidst the monastic dissolution. The producers provide a plot teaser by stating: “When Cromwell orders Shardlake to investigate the assassination of one of his commissioners at a monastery in the remote town of Scarnsea, his sheltered existence as a lawyer is abruptly upended.

“At this time, Shardlake’s successful resolution of the murder and the closure of the monastery are critical for Cromwell’s political survival, as the commissioner was collecting evidence to shut down the monastery.”
