Adam Sandler’s long-standing association with Netflix continues with the premiere of his new drama/science fiction flick Spaceman. The narrative of Jakub Procházka, a Czech astronaut on a single discovery expedition to investigate a gigantic and mysterious purple light known as the Chopra cloud, has risen to the top of the streaming service’s top ten movie list. Johan Renck (Chernobyl) directs Sandler in a considerable departure from his previous roles.
It’s the most serious and tragic film of his lengthy career, and he stars opposite the legendary Carey Mulligan. The two only appear in flashback scenes together, as Sandler bears a tremendous burden in a film that portrays him either alone or chatting with what may or may not be a hallucination vision.
Spaceman Ending Explained
Jakub discloses his anxiety to Hanu after the film, to which the spider replies, “However, you also experience optimism for yourself, Lenka. That is the tribal wisdom at work. Are you able to hear her? Hanu tells Jakub to listen to the silence, to which he agrees and expresses gratitude “for everything” in response to Jakub’s denial that he can hear anything.
Then, Jakub appears to disintegrate before him, and we see a vision of Lenka, who appears to be adorned as a princess with a crown and dyed red hair, being reunited with him on Earth. The duo then appear to be communicating telepathically, with him in space and her on Earth. In the concluding scenes, Lenka answers a phone call from Jakub, during which he expresses gratitude: “Thank you. “Had I been equipped with my current knowledge at the time, I would have never left.”
She responds by saying “If I had known then what I know now, would I have kissed you?” In response to his request, she grins and exclaims, “That kiss was phenomenal.” This seems to indicate that they are willing to reconsider their marriage; however, the crucial inquiry that remains unresolved is the extent to which this is in fact transpiring. Was Hanu in fact a person, or is everything transpiring in Jakub’s mind?

As stated by director Johan Renck, the authenticity of the spider Hanuš cannot be definitively determined; rather, the determination is largely subjective and beyond the control of the individual spectator.
During an exclusive interview with RadioTimes.com, he stated, “Art is ultimately subjective.” “You know, that’s precisely why we make it, and I believe that regulating the amount of impressionism you permit is always the beauty.”
“Because, in one sense, in a film, the audience must follow a certain path; they cannot, you know, become completely disoriented. Indeed, one is permitted to do whatever they please in an arthouse film; however, in a conventional film of this nature, there must be a clear trajectory for the audience to follow in order to maintain interest and so forth.

“However, it is something that is entirely subjective.” He continued: ” When I show this film to my peers, there are differing opinions: some consider Hanu to be real, while others believe he is merely a construct of Jakub’s imagination and his inner monologue, if you will.
“My twenty-year collaborator and production designer refuses to believe that anything occurred. His belief is that Jakub is depressed while sitting in his apartment in Prague, contemplating the situation since his wife has left him. He is experiencing all of this in his imagination.

“It’s the kind of thing that floats your boat, man; these matters contain no truth.” It is similar to doing anything—reading a poem, listening to music, or perusing a book. Fundamentally, your personal experiences will dictate how you perceive the film.
What is ‘Spaceman’ About?
Jakub has been away from Earth for 189 days, and Mulligan’s character, Lenka, has grown tired of being alone and wants to separate—a message that has been withheld from Jakub by those on Earth. Sandler and Mulligan play a married couple going through a very difficult time. When Jakub checks Czech Connect, a channel similar to Zoom, and finds that Lenka has stopped sending him new messages, he starts to feel alone and lonely being so far away from her company.
Lenka becomes increasingly insane the longer he doesn’t respond to his messages. It’s at this period that he starts to encounter a giant, amiable, reflective spider named Hanus (voiced by Paul Dano), who keeps him company as he gets closer to the Chopra cloud.
He learns that he is on his own path of self-awareness and discovery as he grows to rely on Hanus’ company to keep his sanity. Jakub uses Hanus as a sounding board and a psychotherapist while he works through his marriage and his early years. When Jakub and Hanus enter the Chopra cloud together, it helps Jakub see things more clearly.
