The Lair of the White Worm Blu-Ray Release Date and Story Explained!

Hugh Grant, Catherine Oxenberg, Peter Capaldi, Amanda Donohoe, and Ken Russell starred in the 1988 supernatural horror comedy film The Lair of the White Worm. It centers on the people living in and around a rural English estate who are haunted by an old priestess after an archaeologist finds the skull of a snake that she worships. It is loosely based on the 1911 Bram Stoker book of the same name.

The film was a co-production between the United States and the United Kingdom. Russell was approached by Vestron Pictures, a U.S. film studio that had distributed his earlier picture, Gothic (1986). An admirer of Stoker, Russell combined aspects of the English folktale of the Lambton Worm with a loose adaptation of the screenplay from the original novel. In the spring of 1988, Shepperton Studios and Wetton, Staffordshire, England hosted filming.
