Leslye Headland is the creator of the forthcoming American television series The Acolyte. Before the events of the primary Star Wars films, it takes place at the conclusion of the High Republic era as part of the Star Wars franchise.
In the lead characters are Amandla Stenberg and Lee Jung-jae, respectively. By the end of 2019, Headland had conveyed an interest in contributing to the Star Wars franchise, and by April 2020, he was devising a new series for Lucasfilm. December marked the announcement of the series’ title, while production commenced in October 2022 and concluded in early June 2023. The premiere date for the eight-episode series on Disney+ is June 4, 2024.
Who is Writing The Acolyte?
Along with being the showrunner, Leslye Headland (Russian Doll) writes and executive produces Star Wars: The Acolyte. A new character in the form of a Wookiee Jedi master, Joonas Suotama, who previously starred in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, Dean-Charles Chapman (1917), Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix), Manny Jacinto (The Good Place), Jodie Turner-Smith (After Yang), Charlie Barnett (Russian Doll), and Lee Jung-jae (Squid Game) are joining Amandla Stenberg Stenberg.
The Acolyte Cast
Casts in Star Wars properties typically include some of Hollywood’s most recognizable names, either prior to or following their appearance in the galaxy far, far away. The Acolyte is not an exception. I eagerly await each casting announcement that introduces additional brilliance and talent to the program.
The press release detailed the following cast additions: Lee Jung-jae (“Squid Game”), Manny Jacinto (“Nine Perfect Strangers”), Dafne Keen (“His Dark Materials”), Jodie Turner-Smith (“Queen & Slim”), Rebecca Henderson (“Inventing Anna”), Charlie Barnett (“Russian Doll”), Dean-Charles Chapman (“1917”), and Carrie-Anne Moss (“The Matrix”) have been added to the cast, in addition to the previously announced Amandla Stenberg (“The Hate U Give”).

The Acolyte Plot
As stated previously, the only information available is the setting, which is the High Republic era of the Jedi. Consequently, the plot is largely unknown, which distinguishes it from programs such as Andor that, to some degree, dictate the course of events through well-established connections to prior narratives.
That the setting of The Acolyte is at the end of the time when the Jedi were at their peak is, in my opinion, the most intriguing aspect of the prequel to this series. It is entirely novel and not even a bit of information regarding it.
The press release provided some information about the series: “Set in the final days of the High Republic, The Acolyte is a mystery-thriller that will transport viewers into a galaxy filled with shadowy secrets and the emergence of dark-side powers.” In order to investigate a series of crimes, a former Padawan and her Jedi Master unite, but the forces they encounter are more malevolent than they could have imagined.
