Grand Theft Auto 6 Release Date: Grand Theft Auto 5 came out almost 10 years ago. What will the next game be like?

The open-world action game series has sold more than 405 million copies so far, making it one of the best-selling game series of all time. And that success has made a lot of people excited about the next book.

Fans have to guess what the highly anticipated sixth game in the series will be like because Rockstar Games hasn’t said much about it. What we know about Grand Theft Auto 6 so far.

What is Grand Theft Auto 6?

Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) is the working title for the sixth planned main game in the hit video game series. Its predecessor, Grand Theft Auto 5, had both single-player and multiplayer modes where players could do things like go on cooperative heist missions, kill targets, invest in a fake stock market, buy companies, rob citizens, drive cars, and more.

No official trailers, videos, or images have been posted yet, and Rockstar Games hasn’t said what platforms the game will be playable on either.

When Will Grand Theft Auto 6 Be Released?

Rockstar Games said that work on the next Grand Theft Auto game would start in February 2022.

Bloomberg said last year that work on GTA 6 has been going on since 2014, but the game doesn’t have a release date yet. Sources told Bloomberg that GTA 6 was “at least two years away” as of 2022, so the game could come out as early as 2024.

Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, the company that owns Rockstar, told CNBC in August 2023 that the studio expected “record levels of operating performance” in its 2025 fiscal year. This could mean that GTA 6 will come out between April 2024 and March 2025.

Zelnick said in the interview, “We let our labels announce upcoming titles, and we’ve said that we have a very strong pipeline of titles and a great outlook for fiscal 2025 when we think we’ll make about $8 billion in net bookings.”

IGN said Friday that Michael Unsworth, who worked on Grand Theft Auto 5 and was VP of Writing at Rockstar Games for 16 years, left the company in August after working there for that long. It’s not clear, though, if Unsworth just finished working on GTA 6 before leaving or if his leaving could slow down the development of the game.

What Was Revealed About Grand Theft Auto 6?

In September 2022, a user on GTAForums named “teapottuberhacker” shared about 90 pieces of Grand Theft Auto 6 content that had been leaked. PC Gamer said that the material was taken down because of a claim of copyright infringement, but it had a lot of leaks about the upcoming game that may have come from bug reports from quality assurance (QA) testers.

The hack was done by Arion Kurtaj, an 18-year-old member of the cybercriminal group Lasus$. In August 2023, he was found guilty in the UK of hacking into Rockstar Games and leaking private information.

Last year, PC Gamer claimed that a playable Latina character named Lucia and a white man named Jason robbed a waffle restaurant and held people hostage in one of the leaked videos.

There was also a Vice City Police Department (VCPD) car there, which is a sign that Grand Theft Auto 6 may take place in Vice City, a Miami-like city that first appeared in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City in 2002. The Vice City Metro is also mentioned in the leaked footage, which is another sign that Grand Theft Auto 6 will likely take place in that area.

And since one character was seen with a smartphone, it’s possible that, unlike GTA Vice City, which was set in the 1980s, Grand Theft Auto 6 will be set in a more modern time.

Other possible leaks include crazy things like a “satanist house,” “UFO Animal House,” “Warehouse Sex Robots,” “Big Cat Mansion,” “Drug Lab,” and more that players might run into.

What’s New in Grand Theft Auto VI?

Bloomberg also said in September 2022 that the main character in Grand Theft Auto 6 will be a woman, which is a first for the series. This is probably Lucia, and Jason is the other main character you can play.

The game could also have an “evolving” world, which means that Rockstar could change the maps over time with yearly changes or other updates.

There have been rumors for years that GTA 6 could give in-game cryptocurrency rewards or use cryptocurrency in some other way, but these rumors have not been proven.
