Actress Angelina Jolie and her ex-husband Brad Pitt are nearing a climax in their dispute over allegations that he physically abused her, as her attorneys file a petition in a Los Angeles court. Recent events have transpired amidst a legal dispute between the two parties concerning a French winery that they jointly once owned.

The documents were reportedly submitted on Thursday, per CNN. According to the document, Ms. Jolie attempted to sell the Miraval winery; however, the discussions stalled due to Mr. Pitt’s exertion of influence over her signature on a non-disclosure agreement (NDA), which “prohibited Jolie from speaking (other than in court) about Pitt’s abuse.”

He claimed in June 2023 that Ms. Jolie’s divestment of her winery stake was “vengeful” in nature, precipitated by a “unfavorable court ruling.”

According to the CNN article, Ms. Jolie asserted in the letter released on Thursday that Mr. Pitt had a history of physical abuse prior to the family’s well-publicized 2016 flight from France to Los Angeles. 2019 saw the two’s formal divorce.

“At trial, Jolie will prove through testimony, emails, photographs, and other evidence why Pitt was so concerned about his own misconduct that he blew up his own deal to purchase Jolie’s interest in Miraval because she refused to agree to his new, expansive NDA,” the complaint states, according to CNN.

The Reaction of Brad Pitt to These Allegations

The FBI, which was looking into the 2016 incident, did not file any charges against Mr. Pitt, who has refuted all of the accusations of physical assault. He hasn’t responded to the most recent filings as of yet.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Ms. Jolie’s lawyer, Paul Murphy, has spoken out against Mr. Pitt’s “unrelenting efforts to control and financially drain” her and his “attempting to hide his history of abuse, control, and cover-up.”

The Controversy Around the Winery Sale

Ms. Jolie and her company, Nouvel, have been accused by Mr. Pitt of selling her portion of their winery in secret to “capture profits she did not earn and returns on an investment she did not make.” Furthermore, he has levied allegations against Ms. Jolie, alleging that she has abandoned the purchase negotiations that were mutually consented to in 2021.

Mr. Pitt has been pursuing a jury trial and the revocation of Ms. Jolie’s October 2021 sale to the Stoli Group subsidiary Tenute del Mondo wine group.
