Stephen Amell Sheds Tears of Joy as Team USA Swimming Secures Yet Another Gold Medal at the Paris Olympics

Star of Suits L.A. Stephen Amell broke down in tears when swimmer Bobby Finke won gold in the 1,500-meter freestyle at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

Amell, 43, posted a video of himself watching the post-race medal presentation on Instagram on Sunday, August 4, saying, “Emotions ran high at the Olympic pool today.” A tear was streaming down his cheek.

Later on Sunday, Amell attributed the tears to “dad emotions [that hit] hard” in a description for an Instagram Story.

Amell displayed his sense of patriotism by sporting a Team USA jersey. As the national anthem began to play in the room, he put his left palm over his heart and let the single tear fall down his cheek.

In addition to taking home the gold, Finke, 24, set a new world record by winning in 14 minutes and 30.67 seconds. The silver and bronze medals were to Daniel Wiffen of Ireland and Gregorio Paltrinieri of Italy.

Amell took Maverick (“Mavi”), his 10-year-old daughter, to the La Défense Arena tournament. Their excitement for Finke’s performance was mutual.

“@robert_finke just gave our kiddo the thrill of a lifetime!!” the actor said on Sunday, posting a picture of Mavi supporting Finke in the bleachers on Instagram Story.

In a follow-up video, Mavi was overjoyed to be able to give Finke a high five as he walked around the arena with an American flag slung over his shoulders after the race.

Stephen is married to Cassandra Amell since 2012, and the two of them have a younger boy named Bowen and a daughter named Mavi.

“[Mavi] is my first concern beyond all else. That will never alter,” Stephen said in a May 2016 interview with My Life of Dad.

Then, everything else in your life falls into place much more easily. First and foremost, my kid, followed by my spouse and family. I think [Cassandra] would concur if she heard this. The same thing would be said by her. Everything else comes into place.

“A career is important, [but] if it doesn’t fall in line with priority No. 1 and priority No. 2, then f—k it it,” he continued at the time. It doesn’t concern me. I simply refuse. Simply put, it made my life much easier and the way much clearer. Knowing who I am working hard for makes it much easier for me to be inclined to work hard.

Stephen expressed his desire that Mavi will grow up to be trustworthy and able to “trust and confide” in him no matter what at the time.
