Following Peacock’s acquisition of the streaming rights for the Tim Downie-led series, the British dark comedy Hapless will make its way to American screens. On April 10, all 14 of the first and second seasons’ episodes will be available on the streaming service.
Hapless, which was created by Gary Sinyor (Leon the Pig Farmer), stars Downie (Outlander) as Paul Green, a freelance writer who gets himself into the most uncomfortable and awkward circumstances.
Tim Downie, who portrays Paul Green (Outlander and Good Omens 2), a solitary freelance correspondent employed by the fourth largest Jewish publication in the United Kingdom, provides the narrative for the film Hapless. Throughout both seasons, Hapless documents Paul’s inexorable propensity to find himself in the most unsettling circumstances.

What is Hapless About?
Hapless, which has been likened to Curb Your Enthusiasm, follows Paul Green as he embarks on his journalistic career in The Jewish Enquirer, a fictional Jewish daily that is regarded as the fourth largest in the United Kingdom. The story takes place throughout two seasons. His journalistic abilities are indisputable, but his bad personality often lands him in embarrassing situations.
“Hapless has always aimed to bring people together with hilarious entertainment. Peacock has been a terrific partner in helping me get my quirky British/Jewish comedy to America, the ultimate home of beloved classic comedies. I’m hoping that the left, right, and center of our American cousins will enjoy my unique style of storytelling. In a statement, Sinyor stated, “To be honest, you could use a good laugh” (via Deadline).

The entire time, the program portrays these topics via an absurd, humorous prism, exploring themes of identity, cultural clash, and the frequently hazy boundaries between ideological extremes. It illustrates how Paul, as an outsider attempting to make sense of an odd and occasionally hostile world, comes across a number of strange personalities and events that put his values and sensibilities to the test.
Hapless stars Downie in addition to stand-up comedian Josh Howie, Mike Fenton Stevens (Slow Horses), Sally Phillips (How to Please a Woman), and Jeany Spark (Black Mirror). James Spring of Fred Films/Blue Penguin TV is the show’s executive producer. Beginning on April 10, Peacock will stream the critically acclaimed sitcom’s first and second seasons.
