A sixth season of one of the most renowned crime dramas on ITV is forthcoming. Amidst the significant casting change for the fifth season, Unforgotten, which follows a small but effective team of London detectives as they disentangle the complexities of numerous tragic cold cases, has been renewed once more. Season five of Unforgotten was one of the most-viewed programs on ITV in 2023; therefore, while this renewal is not unexpected, it is undoubtedly appreciated.
When will Unforgotten Season 6 Be Released?
Although ITV has not yet announced a release date, season 6 may begin filming in the summer of 2023, which would place it within the range of 2024 to 2024. The premiere dates of Unforgotten have never adhered to a strict schedule; on average, a gap of approximately one and a half years separates each new season; however, the gap between seasons three and four spanned more than two years.
Consequently, the release date of the upcoming season remains uncertain until ITV furnishes us with additional details. However, it has been verified that the upcoming season will consist of six episodes once more. Unforgotten is available to view on PBS Masterpiece in the United States.
The Unforgotten Season 6 Cast
Resuming their respective roles as DI Sunil “Sunny” Khan and DCI Jess James are Sinéad Keenan and Sanjeev Bhaskar. Although the show’s narrative framework means that there will likely be a lot of new characters in the sixth season—though some of them may be familiar from other British TV dramas—further casting information have not yet been revealed.

What Will Unforgotten Season 6 Be About?
The fifth season of Unforgotten dealt with a multitude of issues, including the addition of a new DCI to the team and a big topic of mourning that was more prevalent than normal. In particular, Sunny was still coping with the death of DCI Cassie Stuart (Nicola Walker), his ex-partner, who was involved in a fatal vehicle accident in the season 4 finale.
In the meanwhile, DCI James’s husband confessed to having an affair in the first episode of season 5, thus she had to learn how to manage her turmoil while leading a mourning squad. It makes sense that Jess and Sunny had arguments when they first started working together, given all the emotional upheaval, but fortunately, by the end, they had established a reliable routine.

Because Unforgotten cares about its main characters as much as its victims—one of the reasons it is so adored—we would anticipate that Unforgotten season 6 would build on the foundations of their collaboration. It will be intriguing to watch how their connection develops, as ITV promises “an exciting new partnership for fans to look forward to.”
The new cold case for season 6 is unknown, though. “Series six will follow DI Khan and DCI James as they investigate cold cases and unsolved crimes from the past, unraveling secrets and unearthing buried truths along the way,” is all that ITV has disclosed thus far. Chris Lang, the creator of the series, will write all six episodes.
