In the new comedy Champions, Woody Harrelson is back on the big screen. The Emmy-winning actor plays a minor league basketball coach with a short fuse who is given the job of coaching a Special Olympics team. This is just one of the movies coming out in 2023.
At first, he doesn’t want to take the job because it’s part of his court-ordered community service. But as he gets to know the people on his basketball team, he changes his mind.
What else can people who want to see the movie expect? Here is all the information we have on Champions.
When Does Champions Come Out?
Champions will be released on March 10, 2023. Champions will be given the big screen treatment, which makes sense because watching a basketball game with Woody Harrelson on a small screen is simply insufficient. So, reserve your tickets now to see Champions in a theatre near you on March 10th!
What Is The Story of Champions Movie?
Some of you may already know this, but Champions is based on the Spanish comedy-drama film Campeones. People usually don’t like it when Hollywood remakes movies, but let’s hope that won’t be the case this time. From what I can tell, the plots of Campeones and Champions will be similar, but the director may make a few changes.
It will be interesting to see how they turn out. The first movie, Campeones, was based on the real-life experiences of a Special Olympics team, and it’s safe to say that the Champions will go in the same direction. Marcus is a basketball coach for a minor league team. He gets fired for a misdemeanor and gets into a small car accident, which puts him in community service. Marcus no longer has to wear an orange suit to pick up trash. Instead, he has to coach. But the catch is that he has to coach adults with intellectual disabilities, which Marcus doesn’t think he can do, at least not at that moment.
No one is good at everything right away, and even though Marcus has coached a basketball team before and was very good at it, this is a whole different ballgame. Marcus isn’t usually the type of person who would get along well with adults who have trouble learning.
He is an older white man who has never been outside of his small circle of friends. But as the movie goes on, Marcus is able to coach these adults and does a damn good job of it while also getting along with them all. There’s laughter, romance, tears, and a lot of fun, but will Marcus be able to get his team to the final of the Special Olympics? We won’t have to wait long to find out!
Who’s In the Champions Cast?
Champions will include an ensemble cast, but the main character, Marcus, will carry the entire film. Hence, this casting is crucial, and the creators have done an excellent job with it. Woody Harrelson himself will assume the role of Marcus. You may recognize Harrelson from The Hunger Games trilogy, Venom, Now You See Me, and a number of other films and television programs. His profession continues to advance, and it is always a pleasure to observe him. Harrelson seemed to be the ideal candidate for the part of Marcus. He is not, however, the lone star of the show.
Ernie Hudson, Matt Cook, Cheech Marin, Kaitlin Olson, Madison Tevlin, Joshua Felder, Kevin Iannucci, Ashton Gunning, and Matthew Von Der Ahe, among others, have joined the cast of Champions. Some of these great names may be familiar, while others may be unfamiliar, but they will all play a significant role in Champions and are champions themselves.
Who Directs the Champions Movie?
Bobby Farrelly served as the film’s director. Other comedy films he has directed include Dumb and Dumber To, The Three Stooges, Hall Pass, and Fever Pitch.
Is There Any Trailer For Champions Movie?
The official trailer for Champions has already been seen more than 5 million times, and people can’t stop talking about how great and sweet the movie looks so far. Even though the trailer gives us a good idea of the story, we know for sure that Champions will be a lot more than what we’ve seen so far. Woody Harrelson has already won everyone’s hearts, and even though he’s not as good as Matthew McConaughey, we all think he’s right up there.
The official trailer shows sportsmanship like no other, and if this trailer hasn’t given you the serotonin boost you need for the day, we don’t know what will. Make sure you get a good look at everyone in this movie’s cast because they will stay in your mind and heart for a long time, or at least until Bobby Farrelly directs his next movie.
