About The Crown

The first episode of the series provides an intimate glimpse into the queen’s early reign, which began when she was only 25 years old and following the passing of her father, King George VI.

Filming will take place at the usual Elstree Studios, just north of London. COVID-19 rules will have to be followed, even though lockdowns in the UK are starting to be lifted.

The Crown Season 5 Release Date

Deadline said that since filming will start this summer, Season 5 probably won’t be on Netflix until 2022. The coronavirus pandemic did not, however, cause the delay. It looks like the break was planned from the start.

Fans will have to wait more than a year for the next episode. Season 4 came out last fall. The Crown has taken long breaks before. For example, between Seasons 2 and 3, there was a two-year gap.

How Many Seasons of The Crown Will There Be All Together?

In November 2016, Ted Sarandos, in charge of content for Netflix, said that Morgan’s first pitch for the show included plans for six seasons. Sarandos told The Hollywood Reporter; “The idea is to do this over six decades; probably in six seasons, and make the whole show over eight to ten years.”

But Deadline said in late January 2020 that the show’s fifth season would be the last. “At first, I thought The Crown would run for six seasons, but now that we’re working on the stories for season 5; it’s clear to me that this is the perfect time and place to end,” Morgan said. “I’m thankful that Netflix and Sony agreed with me on this.”

In July, this decision was changed again. Morgan told Deadline that there would be a sixth season of the show. “As soon as we started talking about the storylines for Series 5; it was clear that we needed to go back to the original plan and do six seasons to do the story justice,” Morgan said.

“To be clear, Series 6 won’t bring us any closer to the present day. Instead, it will give us more information about the same period.”
