Paris Hotel Issues Apology to Serena Williams After She and Her Children Were Refused Entry to Restaurant
Serena Williams said that she was refused entry to the rooftop restaurant of The Peninsula Hotel in Paris along with her family.
“Yikes @peninsulaparis, I’ve been turned away from rooftop restaurants before, but never when with my kids,” the retired tennis player, 42, posted on X on Monday, August 5. “There’s always a first time.
The Peninsula responded to Williams’ post by apologizing to Us Weekly for the incident.
As we do for all of our distinguished guests, we have the utmost regard and admiration for Mrs. Williams, and in response to her tweet, we can only restate our sincere apologies for her interpretation of the circumstances tonight, the statement said.
“Yes, our rooftop bar was fully booked for today, August 5, and the only tables that weren’t yet occupied belonged to our gourmet restaurant, L’Oiseau Blanc, which was also fully reserved for tonight.”
The statement went on, “She and her family have always been and will always be more than welcome at The Peninsula.”
Together with her spouse, Alexis Ohanian, and their two kids, Olympia, age six, and Adira, age ten months, Williams is currently in Paris for the 2024 Olympics. Williams took part in the Opening Ceremony of the Games torch relay.
Alongside Rafael Nadal, Carl Lewis, and Nadia Comăneci, the tennis icon was among the last torchbearers to reach the Olympic cauldron.
Ohanian, 41, was misidentified by broadcasters as the man clutching Williams’ umbrella during the ceremony.
“Serena has an amazing appearance. During the Eurosport broadcast, pundit Laura Woods stated, “She has someone just behind us holding an umbrella.” “You aim to reach those levels. must be able to hold an umbrella in place behind you.
Following the commentator’s widely shared words, the co-founder of Reddit moved to social media to celebrate his newfound fame.
“Serena. Olympia. Ohanian shared a humorous photo of himself with Olympia and Williams in Paris on Instagram in July, captioning it, “Serena’s Personal Umbrella Holder.” “Now let the games start! To be inspired by @athlos, I’ll be watching a lot of track and field competitions.
Williams has experienced the Olympics before. She competed in the Olympics four times, in 2000, 2008, 2012, and 2016. Serena Williams and her sister Venus won the gold medal in the women’s doubles category at every tournament. Serena, though, gushed that she could not wait to see other athletes compete after she retires in 2022.
It’s enjoyable! In front of the opening ceremony, Serena told NBC reporters, “I mean, the Olympics in Paris is really, really incredible.” “I’m not sure if it’s enjoyable or just a little envious. I did combine Wimbledon and London, however I was a little envious of this place.
