Recap of Apartment 404 Episode 5: Do the Cast Members Solve the 1991 Mysterious Case and Identify the Culprit?
Beginning with Episode 5, Apartment 404 provides an overview of the apartment case that occurred in 1991. Commemorating Jennie’s birthday, each of the six cast members enters the apartment and presents her with a birthday cake to begin the day. A woman, representing the apartment, arrives promptly following the celebration and proceeds to knock on their door. She notifies them that today is cleaning day and that, as such, they are all required to assist in the apartment’s cleanup.
Amidst the cleaning session, the woman proceeds to offer coffee to a few of the other inhabitants of the apartment. Immediately following their consumption of the coffee, the inhabitants begin to collapse. A medical team subsequently transports them to the hospital.
The apartment representative is transported by police detectives to the police station. The six members of the ensemble must now determine the nature of the apartment’s enigma. They soon assemble to participate in games that award insights into the enigma. Both teams deduce, based on the hints, that the case involves water in some way.

In episode 5 of Apartment 404, the apartment representative is initially suspected by the entire ensemble due to the numerous stacked packaged mineral water bottles in her room. Subsequently, the detective makes his way to the residence and apprises the cast members that the representative woman has been exonerated of all charges. She does not bear responsibility. The cast then participates in an additional game and gains additional clues.
This time, they deduce from the hints that the case involves phenol, the substance responsible for water contamination in 1991. Those who were impacted developed lesions of a blue hue as a result of this poisoning. Additionally, the ensemble has been poisoned, as each individual has blue marks. The culprit is then identified as “A” by the program.
The individual is responsible for the coffee poisoning that caused the inhabitants to pass out. Additionally, the show specifies that the game will be won by a member of the cast who, before 5:00 p.m., identifies the perpetrator and delivers any of their belongings to the police vehicle parked outside.
As depicted in Apartment 404 episode 5, the cast members harbor initial suspicions regarding Lee Jung-Ha. As a result, his belongings are transferred to the police vehicle. His identity, however, is not revealed to be “A” by the program.
Later, upon reconsidering the hints, Yang Se-Chan initially concludes that Im Woo-Il, the apartment’s security officer, is the true culprit. Thus, the entire ensemble pursues him in an attempt to retrieve any of his belongings. Yoo Jae-Suk ultimately seizes his security guard cap and places it inside the police vehicle just before the expiration of time. Thus, he wins the mysterious game from episode 5.
