Arrested Development Season 6 Release Date: Canceled or Renewal Status!

The American sitcom Arrested Development, created by Mitchell Hurwitz, has been a roller coaster of laughs and dysfunctional family relationships. The show’s first three seasons aired on Fox from 2003 to 2006; seasons four and five followed on Netflix in 2013 and 2018, respectively.

Despite the show’s continued success, Arrested Development apparently will not be renewed for a sixth season. David Cross, one of the show’s actors, confirmed the news in an interview, saying that tensions on set and between cast members posed too many problems to justify keeping the show going.

Jason Bateman, Michael Cera, David Cross, Portia de Rossi, Jessica Walter, Will Arnett, Alia Shawkat, Tony Hale, and Jeffrey Tambor are also featured in the cast.

David Cross was recently asked about the future of Arrested Development on the podcast The Last Laugh. He then said, “It’s over.”

Cross elaborated on the difficulties of making a sixth season, citing conflicts on set and among the cast:

I think it’s all the things that led up to those kinds of things becoming an issue on set,” Cross says, carefully. “It was a difficult process for everybody—exceptionally difficult if you’re older. And it was, you know, not good. It wasn’t good for the actors, that’s for sure.

We didn’t know what we were supposed to do, things weren’t making sense to us,” he says. “And we were doing reshoots on things because somebody thought of a joke, you know, three weeks later, so we had to reshoot something for a story thing that we had no concept of what was happening.”

Season 6 of the critically acclaimed TV show “Arrested Development” has been canceled, much to the dismay of the show’s loyal fan base. David Cross, who played the funny Tobias Fünke on the sitcom, has confirmed the report. In light of this news, it appears that the Bluth family’s exploits will remain in the realm of fond memory rather than actuality.

If the fifth season was unneeded, then a sixth one would be too. The second half of Season 5 concludes the story in a satisfying manner.


The bows in this series are often sloppy and splattered with blue paint and liquor, but what else would you expect? Although it featured some of the best one-liners and callbacks in television history, Arrested Development was always a show about a poisonous family destroying itself from the inside out. No one in it ever deserved to be happy.
