About Boston Strangler Movie
The Boston Strangler is the latest true crime story to be turned into a movie or TV show, but this time there’s a twist. Even though it’s based on the real-life case of Albert DeSalvo, who was sentenced to life in prison in the 1960s for killing 13 women in Massachusetts, the movie is mostly about two journalists who are determined to find out who the killer is.
The movie was written and directed by Matt Ruskin (Crown Heights), and it was produced by Ridley Scott. Keira Knightley plays Loretta McLaughlin, the real-life reporter who broke the story about the Boston Strangler, and Carrie Coon plays her fellow reporter Jean Cole.
What Is The Story of Boston Strangler?
The movie Boston Strangler will be based on real events that happened in Boston in the 1960s. People called these killings “the silk stocking murders.” Before we get into the details of Boston Strangler, let’s look at the official synopsis to get a sense of what the upcoming true crime thriller will be about:
“Based on the infamous Boston Strangler murders, this is the true story of Loretta McLaughlin, the first reporter to connect the murders and break the story of the Strangler. She and fellow reporter Jean Cole challenged the sexism of the early 1960s to report on the city’s most notorious serial killer and worked tirelessly to keep women informed.”
Today, you can find a lot of information about the murders that happened in Boston in the 1960s, especially those committed by a notorious serial killer. But no one paid attention to it back in the day until Loretta McLaughlin took matters into her own hands to try to save the lives of several women who were in danger.
All of the people the Boston Strangler killed were women, but he did more than just kill them. He would first sexually abuse and hurt these women. Then, he would use his signature move, which was to strangle them with a stocking, to kill them.
Boston Strangler will be about the lives of Loretta McLaughlin and Jean Cole, two women who worked in a male-dominated field, and how they had to find out about a murderer when no one else would. You might think of Boston as a safe place now, but that wasn’t the case in the 1960s, at least not until these reporters got involved. It will be interesting to see how McLaughlin and Cole find and follow this notorious serial killer, which could save the lives of several women in Boston and maybe even the whole country.
Loretta McLaughlin’s life will be acted out by Keira Knightley, who is best known for her breakout role in the Pirates of the Caribbean series and other huge hits like Pride & Prejudice (2005) and The Imitation Game (2014). Carrie Coon, who was nominated for an Emmy for her roles in The Leftovers (2014–2017) and The Gilded Age (2012–), will play Jean Cole, McLaughlin’s partner in exposing crime.
Albert DeSalvo, who was found guilty of the Silk Stocking Murders, won’t be played by an official name yet, but rumors say that The Suicide Squad supporting actor David Dastmalchian will be playing the serial killer.
