In The Last of Us Season 1, Episode 5, we saw Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) make new friends who helped them get out of town. But one thing leads to another and things start to fall apart right in front of them.

Three months later, on a grey, snowy day, the screen shows a man coming back to this small barn with some dead animals he just killed. As he walks in, Joel is holding the man hostage with a gun. When Joel and Ellie are done grilling the two people, they go outside, where Joel feels like he’s going to pass out. When Joel finally wakes up, Ellie tells him that they are going to find Tommy and find out what the Fireflies are as they cross the River of Death.
The two people finally get to the river, where they set up camp for the night. Ellie never seems to stop talking. She always wants to know what they have planned and if they can go anywhere they want. Certainly, Papa Bear Joel says he’ll keep watch while Ellie gets some rest. Ellie says she’ll do a shift, but Joel won’t let her. The next morning, when Joel wakes up from a deep sleep, he finds Ellie keeping watch. Even though Joel is upset, he is also very grateful.
Joel and Ellie are walking when a group of people on horses stop them. Before letting them back to their camp, the group does a thorough check on the two of them. A short time later, Tommy and Joel see each other again for the first time. Next, Joel and Ellie sit down with Tommy and Maria, and we find out that they are dating and running the town they are in.

Ending Explanation of The Last of Us Season 1 Episode 6
The next morning, Ellie meets Joel at the horse stable. He gives her a choice, and she throws her bag at him and says, “Let’s go.” Then, Joel teaches Ellie how to use the rifle. When Joel and Ellie get to the Fireflies building, they find it empty. It looks like everyone has left. But as they look around, a group of men shows up, which makes them worried.
Things keep going wrong until Joel fights a man and kills him. But as soon as the man falls, Joel is stabbed in the stomach. Ellie helps Joel get on the horse, and they get away from the other men before they can attack them. At the end of the episode, they run away, but not before Joel falls off his horse and Ellie begs him not to leave her alone. What a crazy episode!
