Brunson won numerous other awards while at Villanova but elected to forego his senior year, making himself eligible for the 2018 NBA Draft.
Jalen Brunson’s Career
Brunson was taken in the second round – 33rd overall – by the Dallas Mavericks and made his professional NBA debut in October 2018. He became an important player for the Mavs and played in almost every game over four years in Dallas, aside from a period when he was recovering from surgery to his shoulder.
In what was to be his final season in Dallas in 2021-2022, Brunson once again became a starter for the team and was integral in its run to the Western Conference finals. Unfortunately, Dallas lost to Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors and missed out on playing in the NBA finals.
Brunson made his somewhat surprising move to the Knicks in the summer of 2022 and was immediately given a more important role in the organization than he had had in Dallas. His points scoring was a major reason why New York did so well in his first season, reaching the Eastern Conference semifinals. The Knicks lost to Miami in six games.
His record-breaking scoring feats have continued in his second season in New York and he is now inspiring and leading a team that is seriously being talked about as a potential Eastern Conference champ. Brunson met his future wife, Ali Marks, while still in high school. The couple was engaged in 2022 and married in Chicago in the summer of 2023. The ceremony initially had to be brought forward after Brunson was selected for the US men’s national basketball team for the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
