Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter, Stars of ‘Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure,’ are Scheduled to Reunite on Broadway
Bill and Ted are back for another fantastic journey, this time on a large stage, more than thirty years after their first appearance.
Fall 2025 will see Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter return to Broadway as the time-traveling California high school slackers they famously costarred as in 1989. Reeves will play Estragon to Winter’s Vladimir in the revival of Samuel Beckett’s Waiting for Godot, which the two will star in.
This will be Reeves’ Broadway debut, directed by the Tony-nominated and award-winning British filmmaker Jamie Lloyd. The theater where the performance opens will be disclosed.
Reeves and Winter, both 59, expressed their enthusiasm in a joint statement on Thursday, August 1: “We’re thrilled to perform together and collaborate with the talented Jamie Lloyd in one of our favorite plays.”
“Working with the amazing Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter on Samuel Beckett’s sublime masterpiece—one of the greatest plays of all time—is a true honor,” Lloyd said.
The play, which centers on two people who are lostly waiting for an unidentified stranger while thinking about the meaning of existence, had its world premiere in Paris in 1953. An English-language translation debuted in London in 1955.
Often regarded as one of the most important and influential plays of the 20th century, it has been mentioned in a wide range of popular media, including video games, music, television, and movies.
Starring Lucian Msamati and Ben Whishaw, the production will make a second visit to London in September before heading to New York Broadway in the fall.
The 1989 original Bill and Ted, 1991’s Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey, and 2020’s Bill and Ted Face The Music established an iconic duo for Reeves and Winter, who went on to star in Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure.
The two play adolescent friends Bill (Winters) and Ted (Reeves) in the original film. They are busy starting their own rock band and worrying about their history class grades because Ted’s father might send him to military school if he gets a bad mark.
Amazingly, the two meet a time-traveler from the year 2688 who takes them to earlier decades and centuries to get firsthand knowledge of numerous historical events.
After starring in the action movie John Wick: Chapter Four, Reeves will next be seen opposite Seth Rogen in the thriller Good Fortune, directed by Aziz Ansari. Actor, director, and writer Winter, on the other hand, just wrapped up work on Adulthood, starring Josh Gad and Kaya Scodelario.
