Ava Kris Tyson, a frequent collaborator and close friend of YouTube sensation MrBeast, has left his channel due to claims that she engaged in inappropriate behavior with a young admirer.
Since MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, has been the “YouTuber with the most subscribers” for a while, he and his channel are very well-known.
Just prior to the present scandal around Ava Kris Tyson, a colleague of MrBeast, there was a similar outrage about YouTuber Cody Ko.
Cody has not yet responded to accusations that he had an affair with Tana Mongeau, a fellow YouTuber, when she was only 17 and he was 25.
As is usually the case, a ton of well-liked YouTube videos that recapped and discussed the Cody Ko scenario appeared. It’s important to note that many of these films became viral, which gave creators great motivation to uncover further scandals involving well-known YouTubers.
And MrBeast is currently the biggest user on YouTube.
An Explanation of the Controversy Involving Mr. Beast and Ava Kris Tyson
Ava Kris Tyson is a transgender woman, a YouTuber, and Jimmy’s previous roommate. She also occasionally co-hosts on MrBeast.
Tyson changed her name to “Ava” in 2024 after coming out as transgender in 2023.
Rolling Stone revealed in late June that MrBeast, who the publication claims is “rarely outspoken” about his opinions, intervened to support Ava in the face of a barrage of hate mail on the internet.
Rolling Stone said that @LibsOfTikTok, an account well-known for shamelessly inciting acts of violence against the LGBTQ community in real life, had assaulted Ava mercilessly.
Given that brief context, the “allegations” made against Ava seemed dubious right away.
As previously stated, in late May, rumors concerning Cody Ko and the minor Tana Mongeau started to circulate. However, in late June and early July, these rumors turned into a goldmine for “commentary” YouTube channels.
Once more, it would be foolish to separate the current accusations against Ava Kris Tyson from the Cody Ko problem and the harassment that @LibsOfTikTok caused, as both have obviously contributed to the attention that is currently on Ava.
A little channel posted a video on June 13 that appears to be the beginning of the Ava and Mr. Beast issue. But the title of the video deadnamed Ava, so we’re not going to link to it.
We were unable to confirm the veracity or origin of further accusations that surfaced on social media, based on screenshots from Discord.
While it is wise to treat accusations made in a transphobic manner cautiously, few people appeared to be doing so in an environment where videos making accusations are common (and profitable).
The BBC reports that 28-year-old Ava Kris Tyson was charged for contacting a 13-year-old while she was 20:
Ava replied, stating: “It’s appalling to suggest that my actions went beyond making inappropriate edgy jokes, as that simply isn’t true.”
According to Sky News, the 13-year-old had not only been identified but had also come forward to support Ava. This was a crucial fact that had sadly been overlooked:
“The online-identified purported victim claimed that the films alleging that Tyson had groomed him “are enormous lies and bending the truth.”
“Ava merely cracked a few edgy jokes; she never did anything illegal. I was never taken advantage of or exploited,” he continued.
Children who are actively being exploited online every day are harmed by this circumstance. I am not a victim of any of the claims made in these videos or anywhere else.
The person in question frequently posted on Twitter, requesting the removal of two of the most well-known videos containing the messages. One of their comments was, “… people are creating lies around my name.”
In a different tweet, the same person stated:
Would you please leave a comment on these videos telling them to cease spreading false information?
Ava formally resigned from MrBeast’s channel on July 23 and posted a message on Twitter, displaying horrifyingly abusive remarks underneath:
“If my previous actions or remarks upset or wounded someone, I sincerely apologize. That was not my intention.
Given recent events, we have mutually decided that it is best for me to permanently step away from all things related to MrBeast and social media to focus on my family and mental health.
The “allegations” against Ava Kris Tyson seemed to be a mix of transphobic rhetoric and clout-seeking, but MrBeast hasn’t addressed Tyson’s choice to leave the channel.
