Monopoly Movie Release Date: A Guide to the Live-Action Adaptation of the Classic Board Game
Monopoly Movie Release Date: The way Robert Oppenheimer looked when he realized he had made a WMD is likely how Greta Gerwig felt when she knew how the Barbie movie would be received by the business world.
Hollywood is trying to make movies based on their biggest toy IPs because of her work with Mattel on the comedy movie, which was a huge hit at the box office. And since the Monopoly movie has been stuck in production hell since 2015, it seemed like they had to bring the board game movie back. Like Thanos in a way.
Eight years after it was first suggested, Lionsgate and Hasbro have revealed that there will be a Monopoly movie. When does Monopoly come out, though? What will happen in the new movie? You don’t have to pass. Read on to learn everything you need to know about this movie.
Monopoly Movie Release Date
Hasbro’s CEO said again on August 3, 2023, that they want to make a Monopoly movie, but there’s still a long way to go before the movie comes out. We don’t think there will be a Monopoly movie until at least 2026. But we’ll let you know what’s going on at all times.
Lionsgate and Hasbro have now signed the deal. The next step is for the toy business and distributor to put together a production team and hire a director, screenwriter, and producer.
It’s not possible to start making the movie until this team is put together, but the 2023 Writers Strike and Actors Strike will still slow things down.
Who Plays the Monopoly Characters?
No players or directors have been hired yet for the Monopoly movie. Kevin Hart is the only actor who has been openly linked to the Monopoly movie before, and that was more in a production role.
It would be wrong to make a Monopoly movie without Milburn Moneybags, the game’s manacled and mustachioed mascot who is also known as Mr. Monopoly. The least we can say is that someone will play that part.
If it were up to us, we’d have Brian Cox from Succession. Hasbro and Lionsgate, if you’re reading this, you know what to do.
What is the Plot of the Monopoly Movie?
There aren’t many plot details for the Monopoly movie, but we think the main character will be someone who represents the “player” as they go through the ups and downs of a Monopoly game.
The last official plot summary for the Monopoly movie came out in 2015, so the plot they had in mind for the movie may have changed a lot since then. Of course, this depends on the creative vision of the directors, writers, and producers they hire.
We still believe that the main idea from their 2015 story—that the main character will “use both Chance and Community in a quest to make [they’re] fortune” before starting “a fun, adventure-filled journey”—is the most likely way to go.
While waiting for the premiere of the Monopoly Movie, you can watch more shows in the same genre. Some examples of such shows are Community Movie and The Modelizer Movie.
Is There a Trailer for the Movie Monopoly?
A video won’t be out for a long time because the movie is still looking for a production team.
Still, the Barbie movie shows that these kinds of movies can work. Watch the trailer for the Barbie movie below to see how it’s done.
Where Can I Watch the Movie About Monopoly?
We’d be shocked if the Monopoly movie didn’t come out in theaters. The IP is so valuable.
