Mare of Easttown Season 2 Release Date: Is Season 2 Available on HBO?

When Kate Winslet’s gritty HBO crime drama Mare of Easttown premiered in April 2021, it quickly captivated the world, and fans have been begging for more ever since. Let’s read on to find out about Mare of Easttown Season 2.

Even though it’s marketed as a “limited series,” which means it only has one season, people still want to see more of the grim Philadelphia suburb.

By the time the show ended on May 30, WarnerMedia was proud to say that the finale was the most-watched episode of any HBO or HBO Max series in its first 24 hours. Three million people watched on Sunday night (according to Deadline) to find out who killed Erin and why, and another four million watched over the weekend on HBO Max.

Also, each episode had more viewers than the last, which had only happened before with the Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant drama The Undoing.

With all of this in mind, it wouldn’t be a surprise if season two got the green light. But nothing has been said as of December 2021.

Season 2 Cast of Mare of Easttown

Mare of Easttown wouldn’t be Mare of Easttown without Mare, so if HBO does decide to keep the show going, Kate Winslet would have to come back as the Philadelphia detective with the same name.

We’re also likely to see the whole Sheehan family in season two. This means that Jean Smart (Helen Fahey), Angourie Rice (Siobhan Sheehan), David Denman (Frank Sheehan), Neal Huff (Father Dan Hastings), and Izzy King (Drew Sheehan) will all play their roles again for the second time in Easttown.

Lori Ross (Julianne Nicholson), John Ross (Joe Tippett), Billy Ross (Robbie Tan), and Kenny McMenamin (Patrick Murney) may or may not come back to the show, depending on what happens in the series finale on Monday. Erin’s murder case is likely to end soon, so they won’t be as important to the story. However, Lori is still Mare’s best friend, so she may show up in season two.

In the same way, we don’t know yet if Guy Pearce will come back as Richard Ryan (Twitter), who is in love with Mare. Mare broke up with him in the second-to-last episode, saying she needed to get her life in order first.

Since fans are expecting a big twist in next week’s finale, is it possible that he was involved in Erin’s death and won’t be back for season two? All of this is just a guess, so we’ll know more about who might come back after next Monday.

Evan Peters won’t be back as Colin Zabel because his character died in episode five (RIP! ), and neither will Cailee Spaeny as Erin McMenamin.

The Plot of Season 2 of Mare of Easttown

In the second season, Mare (Winslet) and her ex-drug addict daughter-in-law Carrie (Sosie Bacon) will struggle over who will raise Drew, Mare’s grandson.

In the previous episode, Carrie began taking drugs again to cope with work fatigue. She skipped a rehab mediation session. Drew is back with Mare for now, but Carrie will likely come back for him and start custody procedures again when she’s clean.

Richard departed Easttown at the conclusion of the first season, leaving Mare and Richard’s relationship rocky. Brad Ingelsby, the film’s creator, stated Kate Winslet suggested doubting their connection.

“We did have additional sequences with Guy Pearce, but Kate was confident, and I believe she was correct, that if Mare’s life is too nice at the conclusion of the program, if she’s now dating Richard, then her act of charity by coming to Lori doesn’t make sense, right? Weak.

“Mare’s life is good. She’ll see Lori because she’s created space for new things in her life.

“Kate suggested Mare and Richard wind themselves in a situation where they weren’t sure whether they’d be together. They’ll reunite? Unknown. Uncertain. That made her determination to see Lori stronger.”

Mare and Richard may reunite or attempt a long-distance romance in season 2. If the program returns, I’d want to see Mare win something.

We’ll have to see what huge case Mare tackles next. And whether the decision she made in season 1 would have implications.

Mare of Easttown Season 2

Release Date of Mare of Easttown Season 2

HBO hasn’t said yet if Mare of Easttown will be back for a second season, so it’s hard to say when we can expect to see a second season.

Production on the first season started in the fall of 2019, but it ended in April 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic hit the US. Filming started back up at the beginning of September and was said to be done a month later.

Taking into account the time it took to make the show and the time it took to write it, the earliest we could see season two of Mare of Easttown would be expected in late 2022 if we don’t count any possible delays caused by a pandemic.
