DeSantis’ Belated Critique of Trump Backfires in a Spectacular Fashion
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis received a direct reminder of his own history and a glimpse into his potential future following his recent criticism of Donald Trump.
“You can be the most worthless Republican in America,” DeSantis declared on Sunday before of the Iowa caucuses. “But if you kiss the ring, he’ll say you’re wonderful.”
It also functions in the opposite direction, as DeSantis noted.
“You can be the strongest, most dynamic, successful Republican and conservative in America ― but if you don’t kiss that ring, then he’ll try to trash you,” DeSantis stated.

He said the same thing in the fall. Trump has acknowledged publicly that he is a “loyalty freak.”
In his 2007 book “Think Big And Kick Ass In Business And Life,” Trump stated, “I value loyalty above everything else—more than brains, more than drive, and more than energy.”

Many people quickly noticed on X that DeSantis was a key supporter of Trump during his time in Congress and as Florida governor. Trump has said that DeSantis asked for his endorsement before the 2018 Florida gubernatorial primary, and DeSantis even made a campaign video expressing his loyalty to Trump that year.
If Trump becomes the Republican nominee again, DeSantis has promised to support him, even if Trump is convicted of a felony. DeSantis has also mentioned that if he becomes president, he would pardon Trump.
