What is SABER Marvel? The Mystery of Nick Fury’s Space Station Solved

What is SABER Marvel? SABER is a new space organization in the MCU that was mentioned in the trailer for The Marvels and in Secret Invasion. It is not the same as SWORD, which was already formed. There are a lot of made-up groups in the Marvel Universe, and many of them have been there for decades and helped build it up.

SHIELD is the best example of this because it was added to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a way to connect all of the Phase 1 Avenger. Since then, the MCU has brought in more Marvel Comics characters and also made some of its own.

Nick Fury, who has always been one of the most realistic and grounded Marvel figures, has given the first few hints about what SABER is. But Nick Fury’s MCU timeline has been a secret since the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

In Spider-Man: Far From Home, it was revealed that Nick Fury was really Talos in disguise and that the real Nick Fury was working on a secret space station. The Marvels trailer and Secret Invasion both show that Fury was at the SABER base during the scene after the credits in Far From Home.

What is SABER Marvel?

SABER is a Space Station That is Run by Nick Fury!

Nick Fury hasn’t been on Earth since Thanos’ snap, which was shown in the first episode of Secret Invasion season 1. In Avengers: Endgame, Nick Fury most likely left Earth after Tony Stark’s funeral. From Stark’s death to the Secret Invasion, Fury was in charge of the SABER space station.

It’s important to note that in Marvel Comics, there is no group called SABER. This means that Fury’s MCU space station is something that was made for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

What is SABER Marvel?

Even though SABER must be important for protecting Earth from all kinds of threats, Nick Fury going to space after what happened in Avengers: Endgame caused some tension between him and his friends.

Maria Hill and Talos were both upset with Fury for leaving Earth for so long, even though they both kept helping him during that time. Before Marvel’s teaser and Secret Invasion, there was no mention of SABER in the MCU.

Because of this, it is hard to say when in the MCU’s storyline SABER was made. Fury, on the other hand, was still on Earth when the Snap happened.

In the Mcu, SABER Might Be a SWORD Space Station

In Marvel Comics, SWORD is in charge of protecting Earth from threats that come from outside the planet. This includes threats from other planets and from other dimensions. SWORD is the first line of defense against unknown threats from space who often come to Earth looking for a fight.

SHIELD is meant to protect Earth from itself. In the MCU, there is at least one SABER space station. Fury was in it before the Secret Invasion. Also, the video for The Marvels makes it look like SABER’s job is to look for strange things outside of Earth, which should be SWORD’s job. So, SABER could still be a SWORD space station.

What is SABER Marvel?

It wouldn’t make sense for the MCU to introduce SABER as Earth’s first line of defense against alien threats so soon after introducing SWORD in WandaVision. Not only would that make people confused, but it would also make it pointless to make a new group that wasn’t from Marvel Comics.

The most likely thing is that SABER is an addition to SWORD, maybe a special space station with its own goals. This idea is strengthened by the similar style of nicknames, which are also connected to SHIELD. Still, it’s strange that WandaVision’s SWORD was fighting Wanda, a threat on Earth, while SABER is doing “space work.”

What’s SWORD in the MCU?

Maria Rambeau made SWORD, which stands for Sentient Weapon Observation and Response Division in the MCU. She did this soon after Captain Marvel. After meeting both Skrulls and Kree in Captain Marvel, Maria Rambeau was one of the first people to find out about alien threats.

Almost 20 years before Loki came to Earth, this happened. While Nick Fury worked on his Avengers Initiative, Rambeau put together a group that would help Earth get ready for threats from other planets. Even though SWORD has been part of the MCU since the late 1990s, we didn’t learn about its history or see its logo until Phase 4’s WandaVision.

What is SABER Marvel?

In a deleted scene from the 2011 movie Thor, SWORD was addressed. In this Thor scene that was cut, Erik Selvig suggested putting together information from “SHIELD’s astrophysical records” and “SWORD’s database.” During Phase 1, not much of SWORD’s background in the MCU had been set up.

But in Erik Selvig’s world, it would have made sense for him to talk about SWORD in 2011 since it has been around since the 1990s.

How Did Nick Fury Become Involved in SABER?

During Phase 1 of the MCU, Nick Fury was in charge of SHIELD. In Phase 2, however, Captain America: The Winter Soldier showed that HYDRA had been a part of SHIELD from the beginning, which caused SHIELD to fall apart by the end of the movie. In The Winter Soldier, Nick Fury faked his own death, which changed a lot about Samuel L. Jackson’s MCU character.

For example, Fury wasn’t personally involved in the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron, but he did help the Avengers by bringing SHIELD’s Halicarriers to Sokovia. It is unknown where Nick Fury was during most of Phase 3 of the MCU, which includes Captain America: Civil War.
