Knock At The Cabin: Premiere Date, Watch, Cast, Story Filming, Based On Novel!

After months of speculation, M. Night Shyamalan’s next film has been revealed and it’s a return to his favorite genre of all time, horror. We don’t know much about “Knock at the Cabin,” but there are a few hints floating around the internet that give us a better idea of what we may expect from the director known for his surprising endings in his previous films and television shows.

The movie’s scope is expected to change considerably over time as more information about it becomes available, in the style of M. Night Shyamalan.

Knock At The Cabin: Premiere Date And Watch

The release date of “Knock at the Cabin” is one of the details that we are able to state with absolute certainty at this time. Shyamalan has been quite discreet regarding everything else, but he has been shouting from the metaphorical rooftops that the movie would be released on February 3rd, 2023. Or, to use the notation used by Shyamalan, 2.3.23.

Despite the fact that this short teaser video doesn’t provide us with a great deal of information, it gives us the distinct impression that the numbers are being used for a specific purpose. Those reverberating knocks are very striking, especially considering that the film in question is only a brief clip about the release date.

It has a creepy vibe to it, but until additional information is made public, all we have to go on is delicious speculation. I am aware that the year 2023 seems extremely far; nonetheless, time passes more quickly than you may realize.

Knock At The Cabin

Even though we are now in the year 2022, when I wake up in the morning I still feel like it is 2020. This is the reality of the world in which we live.

Knock At The Cabin: Story

Simply going off of what the title suggests, it seems as though Shyamalan is going to experiment with the traditional horror subgenre of the cabin. You may be familiar with works such as “Cabin Fever” by Eli Roth, “The Evil Dead” by Sam Raimi, or “The Cabin in the Woods” by Joss Whedon.

If I am correct and the title is a reference to that subgenre of horror films, then it will be interesting to see how Shyamalan adapts the concept into something of his own. There are a lot of horror films that take place in a cabin, but Shyamalan hasn’t really done one of those films yet.

At the very least, Bloody Disgusting has reported that they have heard the project will be a “home invasion horror film that takes place during the apocalypse,” suggesting some fascinating new ground for the controversial filmmaker that may conjure up some comparisons to the outstanding “10 Cloverfield Lane” or even Jordan Peele’s “Us.”

Because it’s directed by M. Night Shyamalan, the only thing we know for sure is that it will be surprising, but I’m crossing my fingers that this movie leans more toward the suspenseful atmosphere of “The Visit” than the more epic tone of “Split.” When M. Night Shyamalan exercises moderation in his filmmaking, it pays well, despite the fact that he enjoys pushing the envelope to the extreme and including everything in his films short of the kitchen sink.

Is Knock At The Cabin Based On Novel?

Knock At The Cabin

“The Cabin at the End of the World,” a novel with a very similar premise, has never really been adapted into a film version of Knock at the Cabin. However, Paul Tremblay, the author of the 2018 novel, has now acknowledged this relationship. All parties had been contractually required to keep this information under wraps until now, according to Tremblay in an interview with CNBC (via Bloody Disgusting). According to him:

“I signed an option with FilmNation in late 2017. The production team then went on a search for a director and other talent to attach. While another director was briefly attached, I’d heard that Night had read the screenplay and was interested in possibly producing. When it didn’t work out with the first director, Night was still interested in producing, which then became him wanting to rewrite the script and direct as well.”

The Goodreads synopsis gives a little more information about the original story’s premise, but even Tremblay says, “I have no contractual say over the screenplay or filming.”

This gives Shyamalan the freedom to change the story to fit his own tastes. Even though he knows he will have to make some changes, the author is not worried: “Like most adaptations, there will be changes and differences between the book and the movie, so my readers will still be surprised by the movie.”

Knock At The Cabin Cast And Cabin

While the premise of Shyamalan’s fifteenth feature film is mainly a secret, we do know more about the cast. Character actor Dave Bautista was the first well-known actor to sign on for the movie back in December 2021, thanks to his work in “Blade Runner 2049.”

A few months later, we learned that Nikki Amuka-Bird, who had a significant role in Shyamalan’s “Old,” and Rupert Grint would also be joining the cast. Both actors were former cast members of Shyamalan’s Apple TV+ series “Servant.” Ben Aldridge (“Pennyworth,” “Fleabag”) and Jonathan Groff (“The Matrix Resurrections,” “Mindhunter”) round out the already known cast members, though there will undoubtedly be other additions.

Jarin Blaschke (“The Lighthouse,” “Servant,” “The Northman”) will serve as the film’s director of photography in “Knock at the Cabin,” which was also written, directed, and produced by Shyamalan. In a 2019 interview with Collider, Shyamalan provided a glimpse into his plans for the following several years, stating:

“I just had two movie ideas I felt very strongly about. For me, there are ideas and they’re in journals sometimes and they don’t quite have the meat yet or whatever that thing is that makes it so I’m ready to commit two years of my life to make this—to writing and directing this—some of those ideas don’t have that yet. They have to gestate a little bit. But there were two ideas where right away I was thinking about making them. And, interesting enough, there might be a third thing that came to me that might end up going in between these two. So there might be three.”

Knock At The Cabin: Filming

M. Night Shyamalan is known for filming and setting several of his movies in Philadelphia, which is not far from the neighborhood where he spent his childhood.

The director has frequently and frequently returned to the state of Pennsylvania for a variety of productions, ranging from his “Eastrail 177” trilogy (which comprises “Unbreakable,” “Split,” and “Glass”) to his ongoing streaming series “Servant,” to something as fantastical (and woefully misguided) as “The Last Airbender.”

Does this ring true for his most recent film, “Knock at the Cabin,” which was released recently? Reader, the answer to that question is a resounding yes, which is probably not going to come as any kind of surprise to you at all.

According to a claim by a local publication called PhillyVoice, the process of casting extras in April of 2022 was already underway in the suburbs of Philadelphia. In addition, the New Jersey Department of State revealed that “most of the movie” had been shot on location in Tabernacle and Southampton. These towns undoubtedly provided yet another evocative backdrop for the film’s director, who has built a career out of penning dark and ominous suspense films.
