When the magic-centric action comedy Now You See Me debuted in theatres in the early summer of 2013, it did so with few expectations. Despite this, the film’s skillful mix of miracles and mayhem demonstrated an immediate classic with audiences, grossing well over $300 million worldwide thanks to a crackling screenplay and a charismatic cast that included Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Mark Ruffalo, Isla Fisher, and Dave Franco. Not unexpectedly, Lionsgate Films immediately set out to put together such a sequel starring the entire characters.
With the exception of Fisher, who was replaced by Lizzy Caplan’s new character due to her pregnancy, the 2016 big-screen reunion of The Four Horsemen and their ominous overseers, Now You See Me 2 proved to be just as entertaining and profitable as its predecessor, with box office receipts nearly matching that of its predecessor. The sequel also expanded on the universe of Now You See Me in fascinating new ways, leaving the door open for a new trilogy. In fact, Now You See Me 3 was approved while NYSM2 was still in theatres, with franchise producers sometimes lining up Benedict Cumberbatch to perform the villain in the new film.
Proposals for that much-anticipated sequel, however, surprisingly pulled a David Copperfield, as nothing has been heard of the endeavor in a few years. Thankfully, Lionsgate appears to be getting their magical house in order, and it appears we’re finally seeing some movement on the next chapter in the Now You See Me franchise. Here’s everything we know so far about Now You See Me 3.
Now You See Me 3: Who Will Be in The Cast?
Even though we don’t understand when Now You See Me 3 will be released in theatres, the most obvious question now that the film is moving forward is which of the original cast members will return. That is a particularly difficult question to answer because nearly every single character on the show has been incredibly busy in the decades since the last film was released.
However, already when we get it to the source material Now You See Me cast, we should pretty much assume that Benedict Cumberbatch is a legitimate bit of a stretch to appear as the villain in NYSM3. Cumberbatch will most likely be unable to take on the role due to his MCU commitments, but he also has a number of non-MCU projects in the works that will keep him busy until at least 2022. We sincerely apologies to anyone hoping for an MCU homecoming between Dr. Strange and the Hulk in Now You See Me 3.
Aside from Cumberbatch, the rest of the Now You See Me cast is riddled with unanswered questions. With identities like Ruffalo, Eisenberg, Caine, Franco, Caplan, Freeman, and Harrelson on the cast list, we’re guessing it took some legitimate scheduling magic to fit the Now You See Me 2 shoots into their hectic schedules. That massive task will only become more difficult as time passes, as an ensemble this star-studded is bound to have a fairly full range of specific dance cards.
Of course, it could also imply that Lionsgate intends to forge a completely new path with fresh additions in the third Now You See Me film. It would be surprising, however, if none of the franchise’s more well-known characters appeared.
Now You See Me 3: Release Date Information
This should goes without saying that we don’t know much about Now You See Me 3 just yet. To be honest, the “movement” we alluded to places NYSM3 in its early stages of development. However, in case you haven’t heard, Lionsgate has finally hired a screenwriter to write a story for the film after a few years of absence. This is absolutely correct; it it seems that NYSM and NYSM2 author Ed Solomon would not return to compose the series’ third instalment. After initially stating that he would return for the third film, Now You See Me 2 director John M. Chu has also stepped down.
With those two departures and the addition of a new writer, it’s possible that we’ll see a slightly different version of The Four Horsemen than was originally planned. The good news is that Lionsgate is bringing in a real heavy hitter to pen the story, recently declaring that Oscar-nominated American Hustle and Top Gun: Maverick screenwriter Eric Warren Singer had landed the job. Because the news was just leaked, it’s hypothesized Singer is still in the initial stages of composing, which implies there’s likely not that much else going on with the project right now.
Obviously, this means we have no idea when Now You See Me 3 will be released in theatres. Given that Now You See Me 2 was released over four years ago, the studio is likely to want to expedite the project as much as possible. Assuming Singer does have a little miracle in his edge, Now You See Me 3 could pick up steam from here on in the process of production.

Now You See Me 3: What Could Expect from Third Part
For whatever that’s worth, Jesse Eisenberg is still excited about making Now You See Me 3, even if he is concerned about audiences losing interest in the world. More troubling, it’s possible that the audience won’t remember all of the plot twists and turns that occurred in the first two films.
Respectively Now You See Me and Now You See Me 2 played in the realm of cinematographic sleight-of-hand, almost to the point of outright absurdity, like a great magic trick. Audiences didn’t seem to mind how many twice the rug was pulled out underneath them because they did so with such style, charm, and swagger. To refresh your memory, the first two films followed the exploits of a group of criminal magicians who are assembled, and eventually recruited, by a powerful underground magic collective known as The Eye to pull off showy heists while being pursued by the FBI and Interpol.
When we last saw The Four Horsemen, they’d been through some serious twists, with a rash of shocking revelations leading them deeper into The Eye’s world than they ever could’ve imagined. Unfortunately, viewers have yet to see what happens behind the scenes of The Eye. That will presumably change with Now You See Me 3, as the shrewd group of illusionists has been officially welcomed into the fold, with Dylan (Ruffalo) at the helm.
Even though we’re almost certain to see the inner workings of The Eye in Now You See Me 3, we don’t know much else about the film’s potential plot. The one thing we know for sure is that there will be plenty of magic in Now You See Me 3, and we can’t wait to get lost in the illusion once more.
