‘Your love for animal is intertwined with hate for Muslims’ Kerala hackers take down Maneka Gandhi’s NGO website over Malappuram remarks

Thiruvananthapuram: The official website of People for Animals (PFA), an animal rights NGO founded by BJP MP Maneka Gandhi, was taken down on Friday by a group of “ethical hackers” over her remarks made on Malappuram district while referring to the death of a pregnant elephant in Kerala.

A long message on the defaced website read, “Maneka Gandhi dragged the sad death of pregnant elephant for dirty politics,” with the popular ‘coffin dance’ music playing in the background.

The Facebook hacker group called ‘Kerala Cyber Warriors’ also posted a Google map showing Ambalappara, where the elephant died, in Palakkad district.

The message further says: “Your agenda is clear, love for animal is intertwined with hate for Muslims. Spreading false information by a person especially being an ex-minister and a Lok Sabha member is a real threat to the nation and not acceptable. The bond between Hindu and Muslim in Malappuram is strong.”

Gandhi has been facing the wrath of Keralites after she tweeted that Malappuram district was known for “its intense criminal activity,” especially with regard to animals.

So far one person, identified as Wilson, was arrested on Friday in connection with the death of a pregnant elephant in Kerala.

“One person was arrested today. There are more accused in the case and efforts are on to nab them”, Kerala Forest Minister K Raju told media. Forest and police officials are conducting a joint probe into the elephant’s death and a ‘very fruitful investigation’ is going on, he said.

On Thursday, several verified profiles on Twitter had posted fake news claiming that two Muslims were arrested over the incident. It was posted in several profiles, including that of Amar Prasad Reddy, an advisor to the Union Minister of State for Health.

In addition to her false claim, that the incident took place in Malappuram, BJP MP Maneka also stated that ‘600 elephants are killed in Kerala every year,’ a claim which falls flat given the data provided by the government over the years.

Kerala police have now filed an FIR against BJP MP and animal activist Maneka Gandhi for her provocative statements.
