New Delhi: The Zee Media network office in Delhi emerges as single biggest virus source of the day after the 28 staffers including reporters tested positive for the COVID-19. The newsroom and studios have been sealed, said the media network on Monday.
“So far 28 of our team mates have tested positive. Fortunately, most of them are asymptomatic and not complaining of any discomfort”, Sudhir Chaudhary, Editor-in-Chief, Zee News said in a statement.
“The global pandemic has now become a personal story for Zee Media. Last Friday, one of our colleagues tested positive for Covid-19. Our office, newsroom and studios have been sealed for sanitisation. The Zee News team has been shifted to an alternative facility for the time being,” he said”, the statement said.
Sudhir Chaudhary who aggressively held the Tablighi Jamaat responsible for spreading the coronavirus, even went on to label them for waging ‘Corona Jihad’ is now at receiving end on micro blogging site.
Aveek Sen, an independent journalist formerly associated with The Telegraph alleged that Chaudhary while addressing the staff which was moved to WION building said, “Ghabra kyun rahe ho? Mai bhi carrier ho sakta hun. Par kaam kar raha hun na.” (Why are you scared? I can also be the carrier. Still I am working) Then threatening those who took leave said, “Jo log bahana banake office nahi aa rahe hai, unko hum dekh rahe hai..” (Those who are making excuse to not come to office, we have our eyes on them..)
13 people in Zee News tested Corona positive.
Staff moved to WION building where they were treated with contempt. One with Zee News reportedly responded ” Are we Tablighis?”

Several people voiced the demand for invoking pandemic act against Chaudhary for purposely putting lives of people under risk. Refuting the claim, Zee News Editor-in-Chief in his tweet said that those staffers “who are infected had the option of sitting at home & sharing memes” but still “they came to work because they’re committed professionals”.
Team @ZeeNews is on the frontline, while social media stone pelters spread rumours. Those who are infected had the option of sitting at home & sharing memes. They came to work because they’re committed professionals. If you can’t show them respect, don’t expose your spiteful selves!
