Raipur: Chhattisgarh police has registered an FIR on Monday against BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra under the charges of promoting enmity between different groups and hurting religious feelings in Raipur.
“The case was registered this evening against Patra at Civil Lines police station based on a complaint lodged by Poornachand Padhi. Probe is underway,” said Raipur Superintendent of Police Arif Sheikh.
In his complaint, Poornachand Padhi who heads the Chhattisgarh Youth Congress referring to a tweet posted by Patra on May 10 alleged that Patra levelled false allegations against former Prime Ministers Jawahar Lal Nehru and Rajiv Gandhi in connection with the Kashmir issue, 1984 anti-Sikh riots and Bofors scam, as per the FIR.
Patra in his tweet, referring to the earlier complaint lodged against him in Delhi by Indian Youth Congress president Srinivas BV said, “On calling Nehru and Rajiv corrupt, the Congressmen have complained to the ..teacher .. Still more shame to come. Nehru gave birth to the Kashmir problem as well. Kashmir wouldn’t be an issue if Nehru wouldn’t be involved. Rajiv Gandhi had stolen the Bofors as well as made 3000 Sikhs killed. Go and do more complain”.

The case was registered under sections 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc.), 505(2) (statements conducing to public mischief) and 298 (uttering, words, etc. with deliberate intent to wound the religious feelings of any person) of the IPC, police said.
Padhi claimed the tweets were made with an intention to hurt religious sentiments.
“There is also likelihood that the tweet may cause fear in the Sikh community and induce any person of the community to commit an offence against the state or against the public tranquility,” the FIR alleged.
Padhi in his FIR further alleged Patra of using derogatory language against the former PMs that could incite any class or community of person to commit any offence against any other class or community.
