Muslim woman breaks fast to donate blood to Hindu patient

Lakhimpur Kheri (UP): In a compassionate gesture, a Muslim woman broke her fast during the holy month of Ramzan to donate blood to a Hindu patient who is battling between life and death; the woman has not only saved his life, but also set an example of communal harmony.

The condition of Vijay Kumar Rastogi, resident of Mohalla Mishrana, Lakhimpur Kheri District suddenly worsened. When brought to the district hospital, Doctors at the hospital informed that blood transfusion should be done as soon as possible.

Rastogi has O+ blood group. However, finding that specific blood type was proving very difficult for patient’s family as O+ blood wasn’t available in blood banks.

The family members continued their search for the O+ blood group for 6 days. Due to Corona epidemic, most of the blood banks were facing shortage of blood stock.

However, one of the employees of the blood bank contacted Jaspal Singh Pali who runs Bhagat Singh Selfless Service Committee. Jaspal sought help from Social worker and SP leader Trupti Awasthi.

Awasthi then contacted Alisha Khan, resident of Hidayat Nagar as her blood group is O+. Breaking her fast, Khan immediately rushed to the hospital to donate blood. Rastogi has reportedly improved following the blood transfusion.

The woman gave her blood to save a life, which she did not even know. She comes as a great example of Hindu Muslim unity in real India.
