30 Muslims among 759 successful candidates In Civil Services Examination
New Delhi: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on Friday declared the results of the Civil Services 2018 examinations. Among 759 successful candidates, 30 Muslims have been recommended for appointment in Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS) and Central Services.
Kanishk Kataria has secured the top position in UPSC civil services examination 2018. Akshat Jain and Junaid Ahmad stand second and third respectively in the examination.
Junaid who hails from Nageena town of Uttar Pradesh is the only Muslim to secure place in top 10. Belonging to a middle-class family Junaid undertook his Civil Services coaching from Jamia Millia Islamia New Delhi.
The Civil Services Examination, 2018 was held by the UPSC in September-October, 2018 and the interviews for Personality Test were held in February-March, 2019.
Only two Muslims made to the list of top 100 this year. Last year 56 (5.6%) Muslims had cracked the UPSC Civil Services 2017 exam. Of them 06 Muslims were among the top 10 in the list of 990 successful candidates.

In 2016, 10 Muslims were among top 100 and a total of 52 (4.7%) Muslims had cracked the coveted exam and were included in the list of 1,099 successful candidates.
In 2015, 34 (3.15%) out of the total 1,078 candidates were Muslims, in 2014, 38 (3.07%) out of the total 1,236 were Muslims and in 2013, out of the total 1,122 successful candidates 34 (3.03%) were Muslims.
“Appointment to the various Services will be made according to the number of vacancies available with due consideration to the provisions contained in the Rules for the Examination”, the UPSC said.
Among those selected are 361 from General category, 209 from OBC, 128 SCs and 61 STs.
