Primary Teacher publishes book to showcase poetic skills of her students

Solapur: Shaheen Sultana – an Urdu primary teacher from Solapur felt the need to show case the poetic skills her students exhibit. In an unprecedented move, she published the collection of poetries penned by little poets on her own expenses.

The 46 pages book “Hamare Nanhe Shayar” (Our Junior Poets) has been launched at the hands of Maharashtra state Minister Subhash Deshmukh recently in presence of dignitaries from education sector.

Shaheen, an Assistant teacher in Zilla Parishad Urdu Primary School Vidi Gharkul has executed the project single handedly. She calls it an attempt to provide a platform to young Urdu poets who can serve and contribute in future for their mother tongue.

28 students having inclination towards poetry were spotted and Shaheen groomed their writing skills. The collection includes Nazm (rhymed verse) and Ghazals (Odes) on the topics like patriotism, cleanliness, life of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), environment etc.

It is well known that Urdu poetry has its own identity throughout the world. It has emotions and directly touches the heart of the reader.  Urdu Poetry is considered as the most important part of the Urdu literature. It has enough capacity and beauty to convey thousand messages in few words.

Speaking with Shaheen Sultana says, “I did it just to motivate my students. I was working on this project for last six months, we explained the method of writing poetry and guided students to express their own words”. I must thank my colleagues Mahboob Husain Shahpure and Naziya Shaikh for extending their support, Shaheen added.

Hamid Iqbal Siddiqui, a well-known poet lauded the initiative and congratulated all junior poets and teachers for their contribution towards Urdu Language. He said this kind of efforts motivate the young generation and provide them a platform to prove their abilities.

This is a unique activity carried out by a primary teacher. I am experiencing this for the first time in my career, said Shaheen Sadaf a poetess and a primary teacher. Congratulating Shaheen she further said that this kind of activities help to enhance the hidden talent of students.

Khadimane Urdu Forum, a city Based NGO has felicitated all the students and their teachers for completing this unique project successfully. Mohammed Hanif who is a Member of Maharshtra state Urdu Academy appreciated junior poets and their teachers and assured Academy’s support to spread the book. President of the NGO Viqar Shaikh, Dr.Shafi Chobdar and Mahmood Nawaz were also present during the felicitation function.
