Hyderabad group filed complaint against viral song ‘Manikya Malarayi Poovi’ for hurting Muslim sentiments
Hydearbad: A group of Muslim men on Wednesday have filed a complaint in Hyderabad’s Falaknuma Police Station against the Malayalam song Manikya Malarayi Poovi featuring Priya Prakash Varrier who became an internet sensation overnight. The complaint alleged that the song from the movie Oru Adaar Love hurts the sentiments of the Muslims.
Muqeeth Khan, one of the complainants, told Times Now that the video insults Prophet Mohammad. “After listening to the song, I went for the translation of the lyrics,” he said. “The translation is about our Prophet.”
Reacting to this, the director of the movie, Omar Lulu said that it is just a love song which doesn’t hurt any sentiments. “There is nothing against Islam or Muslims. It is a very old love song sung by all communities,” he said.
Omar Lulu also said that Manikya Malaraya Poovi means “a pearl flower that is very precious”. He added that the song is about the love story of the Prophet Mohammad and his first wife Khadijah.
According to Falaknuma Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP) Syed Faiyaz, “The youth said the song’s lyrics allegedly hurt the sentiments of Muslims. A preliminary enquiry is going and no FIR has been filed yet.”
The song became a huge hit on the internet within few hours of its release and Priya Prakash Varrier became an instant sensation with her wink and expressions. The actor, Roshan Abdul is equally garnering love across India and even in neighbouring countries.
“Manikya Malaraya Poovi” is a famous mappila paattu (a folklore Muslim song genre) that was originally composed by Thalassery K Refeeque to the lyrics penned by PMA Jabbar.
