Mangalore: Recently, several incidents of hatred between Hindu and Muslim community is making news headlines in the country. But in an exceptional move, in Karnataka, a Hindu has set the example of Hindu-Muslim unity by donating his land for the expansion of a mosque.
Mohan Rai, the president of Eliya Sri Vishnumurthy Temple in Olemundovu village under Keyyur gram panchayat of Dakshina Kannada district has donated 12 cents (Approx. 5000 Sq ft) of his land to a mosque located next to his property.
“The masjid is located close to my property and the committee needed additional land. Though we are of different faiths, we have only one god. Hence, we have to respect all religions. We should not discriminate in the name of religions. God has given me everything and I am donating a part of it,” said Rai, Times of India reported.
The masjid Committee president Puthu Monu and other authorities thanked Rai for the gesture and appreciated this move.
According to reports, the committee of Olemundovu Mosque requested Mohan for the land for its expansion plans. Mohan, who used to participate in programmes at mosque, on December 15 agreed to hand over 12 cents land to the committee.
Renjaladi Islamic Centre convener K R Hussein Darimi said it was a memorable day for the villagers of Olemundovu. “Every Indian should show such generosity. There is nothing in this nation that is bigger than Hindu-Muslim unity,” he added.
